Securifi devices
« on: May 31, 2014, 07:08:00 pm »
Is there somewhere I can get more information on the door and water sensor you are offering backers?

http://shop.securifi.com/collections/featured-collection/products/door-window-sensor
Does this allow external contacts (wired magnets) to be wired into the sensor?
Sometimes sensors have connections inside and allow for a piece of the casing to be broken out so wires can be run to external sensors instead of using the supplied magnets.

What brand is this sensor? Is it the same brand as the door contacts? Does the water sensor use the same zigbee profile as the door sensors?
Is the water sensor only battery powered or does it allow for plugging in? Some water sensors have a port for an adapter (usually sold separately).

I read one thread that mentioned ZigBee may only one run one profile at a time. Does this mean if we have exiting zigbee devices/sensors (not securifi) they may not work with the Almond+  at the same time as the Securifi zigbee devices/sensors?

Please have a look here http://wiki.securifi.com/index.php?title=List_of_compatible_sensors_-_Almond%2B_2014

The door/window sensor does not have a terminal for external sensors.

The flood sensor is from the same manufacturer that we OEM from. It only runs on batteries. All the sensors are ZigBee HA 1.2, I'm not sure what you're asking for with regards to the profile beyond that.

Yes, ZigBee is a bit funny, we support ZigBee HA (Home Automation), but things like power meters and certain light bulbs that use the Light Link profile as a couple of examples won't work. It's not a matter of using things at the same time, as other brands of sensors will work just fine, as long as the adhere to the ZigBee HA profile. Please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZigBee#Standard_and_profiles for more details.

The door sensor does not have built in support for adding another sensor.
However the Reed sensor is quite easy to get to and has large nice connectors, (see picture) so if you are somewhat handy with a soldering iron, you could easily add your own cable to it, and put it in parallel with the reed sensor, or replace it.

In regards to running the water sensor on AC, well you would need your own AC adapter that can deliver I suppose 3V, The sensor runs on 2xCR2032, but it seems to be able to run on only one.
There are two slots for the two batteries, if you connect a battery to the first terminal the sensors turns on, and you can run it like this. However connecting a battery to only the other slot does not work. So first I thought they were connected in parallel but then it should not matter what slot you use, and if they were connected in serial then it should not work with only one.

So will the Almond+ ever support the Light Link profile (such as the Phillips Hue without using the Bridge) or will it always be limited to the HA profile?

Considering that light link is the "light" version of ZigBee, it's not quite fair to say that HA profile support is a limitation, since it's the most advanced version of ZigBee. As for interoperability with other ZigBee profiles, feel free to contact the ZigBee alliance as we think this is as bad as you guys do. Apparently it's meant to be possible to add LL devices to an HA gateway, but there are no instructions on how to do so that we're aware of. We're looking at some other options, such as a means of profile switching, but please don't expect anything any time soon. If profile switching works, you'd still only be able to use one profile at a time and a reboot would be required to change between profiles.
