Almond+ and WPS ?
« on: July 11, 2014, 12:14:30 am »
I have a tivo with the wireless N adapter that connects by WPS.

Does the Almond+ have WPS?  If so, how do I enable it?

Afraid not, it's something we haven't had time to do as yet, but I'll bring it up with the software team and try to get them to implement it as soon as they can.

WPS is dangerous:

If you do decide to add this, at least don't turn it on by default.

On the Almond, WPS is only enabled for 3 minutes at a time and only when you tap the WPS option in the LCD UI. The implementation would be similar on the Almond+.
Some devices can't be connected to a Wireless network without WPS, so it's something we have to add.

It's not an issue for me anymore.  I was able to directly connect and  configure the TiVo adapter with my Macbook after reading a support forum for TiVo.

I'm experiencing very nice data transfer rates now.   8)

Any update on the WPS addition to Almond+? I have a printer that will only connect to wifi via WPS, so it's just sitting there like a lump right now.

Any updates on WPS availability for the Almond+?  The last update from Securifi staff was 9 months ago.  It would be great to have this feature for connecting to printers as mentioned previously.

@ jrmint,

I am sorry to say that Almond+ doesn't support the WPS feature, it's hardware doesn't support the WPS functionality.

How does this relate to the hardware? Isn't WPS something that hostapd (which the A+ uses) can do?

so no WPS support?  That is great.  So I can't connect a camera to it?

@ blandry186,

Connecting devices using WPS is very easy and convenient, however, it is not secured. We can connect the camera by connecting it hardwired and run the setup to complete the wireless setup.

Just curious about status/thoughts....
I read the link above about the Vulnerabilities. If I read it right, the WIKI talked about 3 methods. The first is a physical access. In the Almond+ this can be address by locking the screen with a pin. It's not not like a physical button. Second is the on-line. Of both the online and offline methods, I am confused about one thing. Does not the WPS have to be active in some sort of manner? I would think if there was not an active WPS session then would it be like not having WPS at all? But for the 3 minutes that WPS is active, the suggestion of a lockdown after x failed attempts would make the brute force attack almost impossible.  Since the PIN could be randomly generated on each active WPS, there is not the hangover issue. This kind of dialog is what the Almond+ touchscreen has over anyone else.

I have a Brother 3070CW that was link to my old router in my old house for years. I am having a difficult time getting the WIFI to connect. I have used wire IP to get into configuration, but either I am typing something wrong or there is some compatibility issue. Still trying, had to quit last night for the Dallas/NY game. :-)
Moving from Tuxedo to Almond+
And Loving it.

Yes, I was typing something wrong and .....
Not that this affects the Almond+ other than the reason for WPS. The reason I was having issues is because of a Win10 change. Looks like in Win10 does not support ad hoc networks, which is how I was trying to setup my printer. I could not get USB to work. I bet the wire IP would have worked if I had type correctly. I pulled out the MacBook and was able to get all up.  Before I found out about the Win10 not supporting ad hoc, I was concerned there was a compatibility between the printer and Almond+, but that was not the cause. Once configured using the MacBook all works good.
