5 GHz network not working on iOS device
« on: July 11, 2014, 10:36:18 am »
For some reason when i connect my iPhone 5s to the 5GHz almond+ network, I have full signal but can't get internet traffic/navigation. When I switch down to 2.4 it's fine.

Also - can I name both networks the same thing and let the device decide which one to connect to?

I don't have any problems with the 5GHz band and my iPad Air so far, I'll let you know if it changes.  As far as naming them the same thing, in theory you would hope that all your WiFi devices pick the best available band but that isn't always what happens.  From what I've found if you want to make sure you are on the right band then keep them separate.  If you just want internet, you can name them the same and not worry about it.

I've been having the same problem with my macbook and android phone.  I'm finding if I reboot Almond+ it fixes the problem.

My daughters IPhone 5 has this problem.  My wifes 5C and IPad Mini had this at first but a reboot fixed it.  The 5 works for a bit after the reboot but quits after a few mins.

My iPhone 5s does not show 5ghz. iPad mini shows , it worked for while and now even I can connect it stops internet access. IP assignment looks ok too.

iPad 2 worked for a while, then was unable to connect to the internet.  Switching to 2.4GHz fixed it.

We'll have the software team investigating what's going on here, as this is very strange.

Hi everyone - thanks for the responses. I was running iOS 8 beta 3 when I reported this issue. I have since restored with a fresh install of iOS 7.1.2 (the latest public version) and I have no issues whatsoever with my 5, 5S or iPad 2 Retina. All of these devices are getting 110 MB/s + down and 85 MB/s + upstream for the internet, with laptops (my 2010 macbook pro getting 350+ up and down). Haven't clocked file transfers yet.

It might still be worth a look by the team though since others are reporting the issue.

Also try a hard reset to get the 5 GHz network working. hold the white reset button on the top of the A+ down for 10 seconds while plugged in. You'll have to redo all your settings, passwords, etc.

I also have similar issue with iphone 5s and ipad air.

I would connect to my 5G wifi hotspot (I setup seperate name for 5G and 2.4G) and it would work fine..

After a while, I'll turn on my device and try to use and get no internet.. I'm still connected to the 5G wifi.. I would have to disable my wifi, wait  a few second, and reenable it for it to work..

Happened every time like clockworks :(

Actually this is still happening to me too. Lars - please make sure the devs fix this in the next firmware release.

There's only so much we can do about the Wi-Fi issues, as we don't control the driver.
The good news is that the next firmware will have a new Wi-Fi driver which hopefully fixes this issue.

fwiw, no issues with the ipad Mini, both wifis enabled (5 as well as 2 ghz) but with different SSIDs  and the beta/dev unit for > 1 month daily useage.

I am also running into this issue with iOS devices. I am connected to the 5GHz network but it does not have any internet access. When I switch to the 2.4 GHz network or disconnect and reconnect to the 5 GHz network it works. Seems to only impact iOS devices.
