Not quite true.
Bluetooth for one doesn't have any kind of mesh networking support, although Bluetooth 4.1 kind of adds support for it, but it's not the same as what's being used for ZigBee or Z-Wave.
It's also not as easy to add/pair new devices/sensors, as you need to enter a pin code rather than use the push button system in place for ZigBee and Z-Wave.
Energy consumptions is about the same, so you won't see any difference here either.
As for popularity, BLE is still fairly new, but because Apple and Google supports it in their mobile devices, there's a lot more hype about the standard.
ZigBee has a few issues, for example multiple profiles which is causing some issues with regards to what works with what. On top of that, the ZigBee alliance doesn't have as strict standards as the Z-Wave alliance, so some companies are technically using ZigBee but add an additional layer of software which means that their sensors don't work with other gateways.
In short, home automation is still quite messy and there's no winning standard.
Bluetooth and BLE is great for point to point communication, but it's not really designed for home automation networks.
