Ethernet Bridge
« on: October 11, 2014, 02:25:55 am »
Hi All,

Not sure if anyone has got a quick solution to this for me but I'm not great at networking. Building pc, yes , networking no  :D

A bit of background first, I live in the UK and backed the almond+ via kickstarter and have been sat on mine for a few weeks wondering what to do with it.
When I originally backed the project, my virgin cable router was useless wirelessly and ran a second router.

Since then I have moved and no longer in a cable area so have gone to FTTC via BT and they provided me with a brand new Wireless AC router.

As a result I was wondering what to do with it.

I usually run CAT5 cable round the house especially to my living room where I have my media pc / ps4 and smart tv. This is where the issue starts. Not wanting to dig up the floor boards or run 50m of ethernet round the house I thought I'd try powerline adapters. Unfortunately due to a split consumer board this didnt work. I then moved on and got a wireless AC bridge. WUMC710. This was useless as kept losing signal or randomly disconnects resulting in frustration streaming movies.

So I thought, why not use the Almond+  :D :D :D :D

Here is what happens at present.

Went into settings and enabled Repeater mode and ticked on bridge. It asked for wifi password and seems connected.
It does not seem to allocate IP addresses as connected devices via ethernet show no IP?
Using the PC, things seem fine but the smart tv is somewhat hit and miss.

Plex on the TV sees the server over the network and behaves as you would expect. Channel 5 streaming and ITV Catchup TV also work perfectly ( All Apps on smart TV)
Both BBC Iplayer and Netflix say the tv is not connected to the internet, TV then tests connection and says its not connected but shows a valid IP.

I am slightly mystified, any help would be most appreciated.

Updated the firmware to R66 and the pc and the almond seem to be working fine.
The issue I have now is the samsung tv, says its not connected to the router for 90% of the apps however clearly sees the router as plex is working across the network.
Somewhat befuddled

TV&PC wired in to LAN ports on Almond+ wirelessy bridged to my modem/router - Plex server running via hard wire to my modem/router.

Suspect the samsung tv not seeing it as a valid route?

I only briefly connected my Almond+ in the same manner you did, and also had frustrations with my Samsung Smart TV so the Almond+ is being used for zigbee/z-wave only right now
