issues with RO65 firmware
« on: August 21, 2014, 10:30:14 am »
Couple of things have happened since the firmware update:

1) screen timeout (preset at 1000 seconds) resulted in complete loss of connection to the the cable modem when the screen timed out. Touchscreen was unresponsive and the unit had to be unplugged and re-started. Changed the timeout for the screen to 99999 seconds (the maximum)

2) Random lockup occurred overnight. When I woke up in the morning the unit was on but there was no wifi and once again it had to be unplugged and re-started.

Obviously there are still some instabilities that need working out.

This sounds like it may be the same problem I am experiencing. Hardware reset has not fixed the issue. I think I am going to try and reflash this evening.

We're trying to figure out what's going on with these units, since it seems to be firmware related and it's not affecting that many people. We just can't seem to reproduce the issue which means it's taking longer for us to try to figure out the root cause.

happened again for me. Screen was unresponsive and unit was frozen with no wifi. Unplug and replug. Did change the screen timeout to 9999 seconds this time just to try something...any other suggestions? BTW when I flashed to the new firmware it went completely smoothly...no issues

We'll have a test firmware tomorrow that I'll share with you guys to see if it fixes the issue or not. It's no guarantee, but as we can't reproduce the issue, I hope you guys are willing to give it a go.

I'll be happy to test out the new firmware. As I said in my last post, I will try reflashing with R065 and doing a hard reset this evening just in case.

Any news on the test firmware? Last night, I re-downloaded R065 and re-flashed, but that did not fix the lockup issue.

When it locks up, do the LAN indicator lights flash, stay solid, or are they off?
Do you have any network connectivity?
Can you SSH into the Almond when it's happening?

I have the same issue. Happened to me 3 times in three days. The LAN lights on the back are off and the touchscreen is off and unresponsive. It is warm/hot to the touch. My screen timeout is 60 seconds.
It is in access point mode. I had to do a hard reset. It is on the latest firmware. It is linked to the securifi network, and it has 5 and 2.4 networks broadcasting with auto channels. Only one Ethernet plugged in for the LAN access.  Only 2-3 devices connecting over wireless.
Trying to give all the parameters to help recreate it. Please send me the patch to try it.

tried the beta firmware that was PM'd to me over the weekend...just as bad as before.

I was out of town for 3 days and the unit had a blackscreen and was completely locked up when I got home. Unplugged and replugged 3X but it would lockup almost instantly. Totally unusable. Had to install the beta firmware by direct connecting to the unit after downloading the firmware with my old netgear router.

After beta firmware install the uptime was about an hour...screen froze...no wifi, nothing...hard locked. Unplug and replug.

lasted another hour...locked hard again...rinse and repeat.

20 minute...seizure...back to the old router and waiting to hear from Lars about what to do next.

At this point the unit is wholly unusable so hoping that the bugs can be worked out soon otherwise I am not sure what to do as this thing is eating up lots of my time for very little benefit.

Are you running in Access Point mode?

This morning I reset it and switched from AP mode to range extender. It has been up for 7hr 20min, which is the longest it been without locking up.

that's good to know but then again useless for me as I never intended to use this as a range extender. We shall see what magic Lars can work.
