best/cheap way to start home automation in UK
« on: September 01, 2014, 06:28:28 am »
i need to know where the best place to buy things that will work with almond in the UK
i am new to all of this and keep finding stuff but not knowing if it will work, the stuff i find that i believe will work is really expensive

if someone from the UK that knows a bit about home automation could help that would be great

I'm trying to just get some lights linked up at the moment to get me started then move on to other things, but living in the UK it seems to be a nightmare

thanks

None of the sensors in the UK appear to be particularly cheap.
We'll be selling the ZigBee sensors we offered our Kickstarter backers, minus the power plug, through Amazon at some point in the not too distant future, but I honestly don't know what the pricing will be in the UK.
It would seem like all of the plugs retail for about £30 which isn't exactly cheap...

Similar issues in parts of the EU.  Notably here seeing same relating to automation contacts and purchase of automation stuff.

There always seemed to be much information on the UK automation forum here:

http://www.automatedhome.co.uk

A while back did get involved on the forum relating to some xAP standardizations relating to weather.

I am pete_c there and personally was a stickler about standardization relating to xAP weather.

Write to Jon here (an automation obi wan in the UK); I known him for many many years now...
