New thermostat interface
« on: September 01, 2014, 11:27:41 am »
Lars -- I saw the screen shots of the Android thermostat interface -- much better temperature control!  Any hope of getting a similar update for the Web UI for those of us who can't use an app?

I've mentioned before the need for an "off" button on the thermostat, which you've acknowledged.  I'd also like to request three other improvements: a "hold" button, a "run program" button, and a "hold/temporary hold" indicator.

On my wall thermostat, if it is running the set program then there are no special indicators.  But if I modify the temp, it says "temporary hold", to indicate that the current set temp is NOT the normal programmed temp.  In this mode, it will go back to the program at the next time the program would normally change.  But then there is a "hold" button (and indicator), which means "ignore program changes -- keep this temp until I tell you differently".  Finally, if in temporary or permanent hold, there is a "run program" button which releases the hold and returns the temps to what are set in the preset program.  All of this functionality should be available in the Web UI (and apps, of course).

Thanks for the continued improvements -- this is very exciting stuff.  Please tell the development team that we appreciate the improvements and to keep them coming!

Are we talking the local web UI or the cloud web UI? I think it might be a bit tricky in the current local web UI, but easier in the cloud UI.

As for the other features, can you share some pictures? As I've said elsewhere, we're not that familiar with thermostats and one concern from the software team is how to fit all of these buttons in.

+1 since I can't use the cloud service until the symbol & is allowed in the SSID

Lars,

I'm talking about the local Web UI.  That is all I have been using.  I don't have a lot I can do with it yet, but what there is I can access remotely by logging in through the VPN running on my Raspberry PI, which works great.  Once the L2TP/IPSec VPN is working on the A+ I'll switch to that.  I don't plan on using the cloud stuff at all, ever, and hope to eventually figure out which services are running on the A+ that are related to that so I can turn them off -- the fewer services running, the fewer possible security holes...

If the "sliding number lines" are hard to do on a web interface, then really just a spin box with +/- buttons for numeric input would be fine.  That is what my thermostat has anyway (I sent you info and links to pictures in a PM).

Thanks again, and keep up the good work!  (how soon can I request an SDK?)
