R065 - Device becomes unresponsive after 10 minutes
« on: September 14, 2014, 06:12:39 am »
I received my unit and did the upgrade to R065. R064 did not have the wifi extender I was actually looking for, but R065 did have it, so I did the upgrade. I then configured the device to extend my current wifi and everything seemed to be working just fine. But, next day, I noticed I did not have wifi network where I was supposed to have (where actually the Almond+ provides it) so I went to check the device and noticed the black screen. I tapped it, no response. Nothing. So I just unplugged the AC adaptor and reboot the device.

After rebooting the device, it gets again unresponsive after 10 or 15 minutes. Even the Securifi website states the device is offline. Screen is also unresponsive and not showing anything. Only solution is to remove the AC Adaptor and restart it.

Configuration:
- As Wifi extender, tried with putting the same Wifi the device extends (which is not recommended according to the device) and tried with a different wifi name.
- R065
- No sensors configured.
- No WAN nor Ethernet ports used.

I am going to do further tests, with different configurations, and I will post them. But, question is: has anyone else experienced the same problem?

Thanks.

Yes, though apparently it's not a widespread problem. Securifi is aware and has units coming back from the field to determine what's causing the shutdowns. I had the same symptoms, and after trying several software builds, they replaced the A+ and had me send the original unit back to Taiwan. So far, the replacement has been stable but I still need to try R065. My advice would be to open a support case.

Thanks for the information.
I checked if it was a heat issue, but even with the screen laying down (which leaves the vents fully unblocked) I still have problems.

And after reading the links you posted (thanks) it seems more like a unit problem rather than a software one, since they are unable to reproduce the issue. I will open a support case with them.

Thanks again.

My data point of one: The replacement unit has been stable for more than a day, which is longer than the original lasted under any firmware or orientation. It's now "very warm" at the exhaust vent (vertical orientation) at idle versus "disturbingly hot."
