DynamicDNS - AfraidDNS
« on: September 14, 2014, 05:48:43 pm »
Has anyone had luck with the Almond+ updating AfraidDNS with the new wan ip? I have it configured, but doesn't seem to update. Just wondering if anyone else is using it or not.

I got it to work by following the OpenWRT instructions on this page: http://freedns.afraid.org/scripts/freedns.clients.php. It definitely didn't seem to update my dynamic IP at the check interval (perhaps because the router's WAN IP hadn't changed since it had been restarted), but the force update interval does appear to work as the next day afraid.org was sending out my current IP.

DNS service that works well with the Almond+

If you want a free dynamic DNS service that works with the Almond+, take a look at http://freedns.afraid.org. I have no affiliation with that site, I'm just someone who switched over when DynDNS discontinued their free service. They have OpenWRT configuration instructions that work with the Almond+ on this page: http://freedns.afraid.org/scripts/freedns.clients.php

I'm using AfraidDNS myself and it seems to be working fine.  In the configuration page, I chose "URL" as the source of IP address (with http://checkip.dyndns.org as the URL) because my A+ is behind my ISP router so has no local way of knowing my public facing IP address.

The OpenWRT config on this page took care of it: http://freedns.afraid.org/scripts/freedns.clients.php

Thanks for the help guys! Much appreciated.
