No 5ghz network
« on: September 26, 2014, 04:58:50 pm »
I can't connect to the 5ghz network on my Almond. Changed the settings and rebooted a couple of times with no result.

Then I checked the status page on the LCD UI and selected the tab MAC addresses. There was a red cross over the wifi symbol of the 5ghz MAC address.

Any idea what's wrong?

That's highly unusual, can you have a look in the LCD UI under Wireless Settings, Advanced to see if the 5GHz network is enabled there. It should be the last option and the highlighted blue part should be On.

Yep, that's on!

Should I try a hard reset??

At this point, it looks like it's the only thing worth trying.
Not sure what's going on here to be honest.

Did the hard reset and it worked. 5ghz is available again!

Thanks!

I had the red cross too, and after pressing the reset button it's gone. The cross wasn't there before I updated to R066.

Edit: Or it has something to do with changing wifi region. After the reset I changed country to Finland and the cross was back.
Then I changed back to US and again to Finland, and the cross didn't come back.

That sounds like a bug, I'll let the software team know.

Ok, so this is what happens.
When you change the country to one that doesn't allow for channel 149 and up, the Almond+ doesn't auto select the correct lower channel.
At the moment you have to select the correct channel in the web UI and it'll work, i.e. in the case of Finland, you need to select 36-48 rather than 149-161 as the EU doesn't allow for the higher channels.
Hopefully this makes sense and we'll work on getting this fixed in a future firmware update as it's clearly confusing and annoying.

Ok, I have the same problem. I saw the 5GHz network one time during the setup but not after. I changed the region to Sweden to see if that helped but i didn't. Now I know from above what to do instead.

When Finland is set as region, the drop down list show only Auto and 36 - 48 as options. So that works correctly then. And Auto seems to work now. At least the cross is gone.

Btw, for clarity, could you show the currently used channel (both 2.4GHz and 5GHz) in the status box of the main page of the web-ui? So when it's set to Auto you would show an actual channel number.

Changed the channel and now the 5GHz network is working again.  :)
