Cloud Services Down?
« on: August 03, 2024, 06:49:48 pm »
I use the remote cloud service and the iOS app to trigger some devices/scenes on my Almond+. The last week or so, the router and my iOS app have been unable to connect to the cloud services. Is something down with securifi's servers? Or have some settings changed? What's going on? >:(

In an effort to track this down to see if it was something in my network, I wanted to see what DNS requests were going out of the almond. The only DNS request it was making was to almond.securifi.com. I tried to ping, nslookup, etc., that address and it's like it doesn't exist. The A record and CNAME are null.

Sent email to support 3 days ago, no response. Tried to call the support number and got "The person you've called is not accepting calls at this time."  >:(

I think it's fair to assume that this company is defunct and that we should all move to new solutions

Yes, unfortunately. It worked great for just doing Zigbee and Z-Wave all this time until it didn't. A week without sensors working was driving me nuts.

Alas, I have moved onto Home Assistant on a Raspberry Pi 3b using a 32GB microSD I had laying around that I wasn't using, but will upgrade to a Raspberry 5 with SSD here soon or a docker container on my NAS. Apparently, these SD Cards can give up the ghost unexpectedly so that's my reason for at least trying it out and seeing if I like it as a temporary solution. Can do backups and restores to other hardware so that's a nice feature. Big community of support, open source, self-hosted so no reliance on cloud like Almond, and the capability to integrate with a LOT more things on newer hardware and chipsets. I'm using a Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus-E Gateway, Universal Zigbee Gateway Adapter with Antenna: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BG1LJ687?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details and Aeotec Z-Stick 7 Plus, Zwave Plus USB: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B094NW5B68?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details, both come well recommended in the community. Everything works well, including the Almond Peanut Plugs and Kwikset 620 Z-Wave Plus Smart Deadbolt (which I could't get to work with Almond+). The other nice thing about the Raspberry Pi is that I could run it off of a USB charger and move it around to the various sensors that I didn't want to have to dismount from their doors to include/exclude them next to the device. It's more of a learning curve than Almond for sure, but I was able to pick it up and understand it fairly quickly, and would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a Securifi replacement.  8)
