How to access my printer
« on: October 28, 2014, 03:25:02 pm »
Hopefully this is a simple question for the experts

My setup:
Cable Modem for incoming network.
Printer plugged directly into Cable Modem
Almond + in another room but cable ran and plugged directly into cable modem
My PC plugged into Almond +.

In affect my Almond is between my PC and the regular Cable modem.
I can access printer if plugged into the Cable modem but I can not access printer if plugged into Almond +.

I have confirmed printer works and is accessible from Cable modem.

Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks
Scott

Well by default the Almond+ will assume that the network that the almond is connected to is the Internet and thus not secure, so it won't see the printer.
Think of it like this, would you want to see every printer connected to the internet?

In your configuration I think you need to configure the Almond+ as an Access point, then you should be able to see the printer.

The Almond+ will be getting printer support in one of the next two firmware updates, so it should be possible to connect your printer to the Almond+ in the near future.

I have my A+ setup as an access point and do not see my printer that is connected (wired - ethernet not wireless/usb) to my primary router with my laptop connected over wifi via the A+ - thought this was probably a win8 driver issue! (which in all probability it still is)

Question: Why cant we connect to a printer on the same network with the A+ setup as an AP?
