Neurio and Almond+
« on: March 20, 2014, 05:18:53 pm »
I have backed a few projects over on Kickstarter, one of them is Neurio.
They are running a poll at the moment about what 3rd party device they should integrate with.
I of course voted for Almond+. If you would like them to integrate, head over and vote:

Looks like we're behind the Nest at the moment, but stand a good chance to get something going.
We're happy to work with them and they've actually been in touch with us, casually asking if we'd be willing to work with them.

Any further contact with them? Got my Neurio wired up today and the readings so far seem reasonable. It would be interesting to integrate it more closely.

Sure, they seem to be a nice bunch and are very keen on working with us. We just have to figure out what we can do together, as you kind of need their software magic to make use of their product.
We'll see what happens, no promises, but something is very much possible.

Let me know if there is anything you want to try out or need a Guinea pig for. Mine is hooked up and running. It is interesting to see the data although I am pushing for more detail and other features for it. So you folks are not the only ones that have to deal with me. :)

I am not the only one that has one either. Almond+ ranked very high in their forum of things to integrate with. I even recommended they look at some sort of bundle in the future... Know exactly how your power is being used and control it... If they get their appliance detection working well... That could make for some additional interesting triggers.

It seems like a z-wave home energy meter would be able to accomplish the same thing.
Perhaps one like this: http://aeotec.com/z-wave-home-energy-measure
I'm semi-patiently awaiting support, but also looking into other ways to do put it to work.

not quite. software is where their magic is at, the ability to recognize the appliances in your home as they turn on and off...with an API to tap into. way beyond plain power metering. i also have a neurio but i have not connected it yet as my power panel is a bit old, the wires are short and the space is tight.

I have an energy meter on a sub-panel but the Neurio offers a lot more built in intelligence. If I had just the meter I would have to come up with all the algorithms, appliance detection, reporting, tracking, etc... I would not expect Securifi to do that stuff either. Get the data back to you, sure. MAYBE make a provision to log it... But all that other stuff? Nope.

So that left me wanting something that could do a lot of the "pre-processing". Neurio sounded like it would fit the bill. Still early for them also so I cannot say it is the end-all-be-all energy meter nor do I think it will be. Could it fit the bill quite nicely in most scenarios once they are complete or at least further along? I think so.

I have a densely packed main box so getting it put in was a bit interesting. But I had to shut off power to install a replacement breaker for a new dryer we are putting in as part of a bathroom/laundry remodel I have been working on. Since power was going to be off I figured that was the time to do it.
