What should we call our next generation Almond?
« on: October 28, 2014, 04:12:42 am »
In addition to the Almond+, we're going to be releasing a more affordable product that is an improved version of the original Almond.
We were hoping you guys would be willing to help us make our mind up with regards to the name of this product, so please cast your vote in the poll above.

The new Almond will carry the same overall product design as the original Almond, but we've upgraded the hardware, added a USB 2.0 port, improved the Wi-Fi performance and lastly, we've also added ZigBee support. It should be seen as the little brother to the Almond+ and it will of course be more affordable, but it'll not be less than what we offered the Almond+ for on Kickstarter. It's not based on the original Almond+ hardware and it's still single band Wi-Fi and has 10/100Mbps Ethernet.

Not really thrilled with both (chose 2nd Gen). I think continuing the nut theme further would work... Call them Pecans.

Almond-

Not sure if that might be too confusing though.

Maybe Mini Almond +?

"Peanut" would be fun for a more entry level version.

Moving forward are you hoping of having two product lines?

The Gens make sense if you hope to continue on with the + and non + varieties... I think that's the cleanest way of doing it and makes it nice and obvious that the + is a better device.

Yes, the goal is to have two product lines, one high-end (Almond+) and one more affordable (Almond).

There are several varieties of Almond so how about picking a suffix from the list

what about the Almond MT (Monterey)

No Z-wave in the low-end Almond? Than the home automation part would be almost useless in Europe as there are almost no ZigBee devices on sale here.

my 2 bits!

I would add a suffix which identifies the h/w distinctly and therefore averting confusion with the Almond+ ...

e.g.
  • almond Z1 - Z to announce its main feature (zigbee) and the # to allow for future revisions of the model (and no we wont confuse it with any of the bmw models ever :P)
  • almond bee+ 100 - bee+ to announce its main feature and 100 for wifi speed and continue this numbering with future revisions of the router with 100 MBPS speeds, almond bee+ 101 etc.

Almond B100, or like the Raspberry Pi's, Almond B.

That would suggest the Almond+ should be something like Almond+ BW1GHA

Okay, so I'm not in marketing.

ericsondr,
I almost put "Peanut" before... but I figured that would scare off customers with a peanut allergy... Maybe Securifi will need to put a tongue-in-cheek disclaimer that their product is made in a factory that does not process nuts or nut products... :D

Why would Securifi not correct miserable pending bugs before even thinking new product development. I think as early backer, long time bearing these recurring bugs, the least I expect is to see a full commitement resolving them, not splitting or redirect available resources to other project. Not shure it is a good idea to ask me what will be the name of your next product,

I did a party last weekend and my A+ crash many times stopping streaming music from appletv, tv movie for friends childrens, wifi remote controle and many more, just an nightmare. I now have to rely on something else.  Good luck for your next product...
