Strange Sounds from Almond+
« on: November 12, 2014, 05:04:33 pm »
I have had my Almond+ wall mounted for a few months now. I am using it as an Access Point and it is performing well.  Since I use Smartthings for home automation I am not using it for Z-wave at this point.  The unit is emitting some strange noises.  I know there is no fan in it.  It sounds like electrical current or interference with a phone or something.  Not really sure, but it makes me feel like it might not be healthy.  Has anyone else experienced this?  I know the units did receive FCC approval, but I am a bit concerned about it.  Should I be?

No need to be concerned, it's coil whine. It's affecting a few units and it's a component issue that we can't test for. It won't cause any problems and this is something that sadly can happen in power supplies of all kinds. I used to have it in my PC power supply, but it was a very high-pitch noise, so I got that swapped out.
If it's very annoying, we can swap out your Almond+, but it won't cause any problems of any kind.
