Nat issue with PS4
« on: November 30, 2014, 02:59:07 am »
I'm trying to set up portforwarding on my PS4 (Static IP) and while it seems like I have the ports forwarded correctly (http://imgur.com/lMOXvLL), I am unable to get my PS4 to be recieve a NAT 2 or NAT 1 type.  I've tested a separate router without (PS4 was still NAT 3) and with the forwarding rules (PS4 becomes NAT type 2), so I know that the rules are correct. I feel like I'm missing a step or something.

Any reason why those ports don't seem to actually be open?

Also a side note, but how do I get my profile to display as a backer for the Almond+?

PM Lars about the backer title.

I'll take a look at my routing settings for my PS4. Although I don't have anything special setup for Destiny. I do have the game though.

Edit: See my settings below.

There a setting somewhere where I was able to open up the NAT for my Xbox One.
I was having trouble joining or inviting others to games I started...

Let me go look and see if I can recall how I did it

Have you tried setting up the PS4 behind the DMZ? I know that has worked for me to fix any port forwarding/NAT issues on my PS4. Not sure if that is going to fix your issues but just a suggestion.

Has anyone gotten the PS4 to properly have a type 1 NAT connection? I set my PS4 on a static DHCP lease, added the IP address as the DMZ and even followed the steps suggested in this other post http://forum.securifi.com/index.php/topic,2400.0.html and I still get type 2. I'm going to try and forward the ports, but I shouldn't have to do this if I'm on the DMZ.

Hi,

Just wanted to clarify that you will never get a NAT1 connection when your behind a router/firewall appliance, even if your in the DMZ.

NAT1 is rated as direct connection with Public IP.
NAT2 is anything behind a router/firewall but does not restrict any incoming or outgoing ports/traffic.
NAT3 is a locked down device which would cause problems with your PS4.

NAT2 is perfectly fine and will not stop your PS4 from working correctly or cause any performance problems.

To improve your gaming performance:
1. Use a LAN cable to connect the PS4 to any router and use a static IP. (Try your best not to use Wi-Fi as latency can not be controlled.)
2. Determine your ISP connection speed. (PS4 Network Connection Test.)
3. QoS - Quality of Service
- This can be complicated but most modern routers will allow you to set quality of service to specific devices.
- To use QoS properly, you must know the ISP connection speed. You should set your Routers Internet speed up to 95% of your allocated Bandwidth so it never peaks out.
- Allocate your specific device as High as possible. When the PS4/Console/PC is on it will allocate a minimum amount and allow it to have the full maximum if needed. Any other device on the network will be restricted to the remaining percentage. (This may mess up streaming services if your not careful in planning.)
4. Port Forward specific ranges to the static IP of your PS4/Console/PC.
5. Bypass Scanning on outbound traffic from internal Static IP. (Not sure this is possible with OpenWRT/Almond+)

Hope this helps you.
-KT

I am just going to resurrect this thread.

I still want NAT type 1 if possible. I put it into the DMZ and still get NAT chat issues with people. Now it could be their side, but I figure I want to minimize any source on my side.

Any other ideas?

To add a bit more detail to the above and contradict myself....

It's not actually true that you can't get a NAT1 connection when behind a router/firewall.

You just need an internet connection with an additional IP address.

You then need to configure an additional ports with this static IP address and put it in the "wan" zone.

I've not tested this on A+ but technically the above is sound.

Cheers
James
