Cable Disconnected?
« on: December 26, 2014, 02:32:49 pm »
I used my Kickstarter Almond+ as a range extender quite happily for a few weeks before it got to the point where the lack of support for my Synology NAS became too annoying and complicated a thing to work around for the other members of the family, but also, critically, it kept dropping internet connection.

So, as part of my "get things working" over Xmas, and with a couple of Z Wave products sat in their boxes, I got the Almond+ out again, plugged it into my ADSL modem/router and get 'No internet connection', or 'Cable Disconnected' messages wherever I go. I think this may have to do with the fact that the incoming LAN port doesn't lock in the ethernet cable, but the green activity light does show if I hold it in place - and I still get the same message.

The same cable from the router works fine when connected to anything else - I had a poke around in the menu items on the touchscreen, but there doesn't seem to be a factory reset option to see if my previous settings are confusing it. I also could not find one of those magic hidden buttons to try and clear its' mind. In either event, because it will not securely hold an incoming LAN cable at all, getting it back to a clean page might be pretty pointless anyway.

Any suggestions?

Which firmware are you using?

Here is the factory reset button.

Did you try the cable in the box?
If that one still doesn't work, please contact our support team for a replacement.

lack of support for my Synology NAS

What issues have you had with your NAS? I set up my A+ as my primary router a couple days ago, and re-added my DS212j last night. All the automatic port forwarding works. I can access my vpn, mail station, etc from the external network.

Hi Lars,

Here we are 4 months later, and I've had another go at trying to get this thing working (I've had a change of broadband provider, it prompted me to try some of the kit I have lying around the house), and I'm still having the same problem with 'cable disconnected' - and I've tried a number of ethernet cables, including the one in the box. Apart from the ethernet jack, the product seems to work OK, but it is pretty useless without a connection to the internet.

Any suggestions on my next step? I'd like to use the Almond+ to help with some of the ZWave/ZigBee product testing I'm doing for my client

@ sjharrison,

When you insert a RJ-45 cable into Almond+'s WAN port, at first you will hear a small click and after that you should continue to press and you will hear a louder click. Then check if you see any green light on the Almond+ WAN port and if you are still having the same issue then please do get in touch with our support team at (support@securifi.com) who would take care of it.

Thanks for that - it took quite a lot of force to get it to click and hold, but I've got a green light.

Now I'm getting internet disconnected! The family is a little busy watching stuff on the network at the moment, so I can't reboot the cable router, but if I continue to have problems, I'll be back in touch!

@ sjharrison,

We regret the inconvenience caused, however, we have seen that using our flat cable it would be easy to make the connection. When ever you get a chance then may be a factory reset and then running the setup should get you back online.
