Setting up Private Internet Access VPN with Almond+
« on: February 16, 2015, 10:28:04 pm »
I am trying to setup the VPN service "Private Internet Access" on my home network, but I have no experience in this area. Is it possible for me to change some settings on my Almond+ so that all the devices connected to my network go through this VPN service?

The Almond+ does not currently support being a VPN client.

Well that really sucks...do they plan on adding this feature in the future? Or am I better off purchasing a different router?

We will most likely add support for this in the future. It does have a built in VPN server, but not client at the moment.

I don't understand why you guys don't just set up a repository for OpenWRT packages so people can install what they want. You specifically advertised that the router was OpenWRT, but one of the most important features of OpenWRT is extensibility, which is absent. Most of the networking features that people are asking for have already been made. Just compile them and make them available to install.

This sort of software usually relies on kernel modules, and I believe there has not been any success in backers building kernel modules of any sort (at least not that they've posted). It appears we do not have the correct kernel configuration in the GPL/SDK releases, maybe because of proprietary dependencies, or may be just because that wasn't configured before being released. And I don't believe the official devs will build and host an openwrt repo, but it may be worth tallying votes in the feature requests section.
