What is the Max Time (secs) allowed in a Rule Set
« on: June 05, 2015, 11:10:05 am »
What is the maximum time in seconds allowed in a Rule Set?

I set a WAIT statement to 300 via the Web Interface and I'm pretty sure it working on 30 seconds.

Ideally I would like to be able to setup up to a 60 minute interval.

For example;
IF HOME
NO MOTION IN HOUSE FOR 60 MINS
TURN OFF LIGHTS

Normally we have 300 sec =5 min max ..it's nice if we have more then 300 seconds ..like one hour etc ..

i second this.. it would be really nice to be able to set more than 5 mins.... like even for a lights on event for a closet, small room... then after 30mins lights off.... also the no motion in an area, lights off in X minutes... but i do like having the seconds as a time measurement... for example.. i have a relay connected up to the garage door opener... i only need it to be "on" for 3 seconds .... so this works perfectly..

THIS! Kids keep leaving their bathroom light on. Simple fix with a Z-wave switch and a proper rule setting for not allowing the lights controlled by the switch to be on more than 30 minutes.

I was hoping that the V83 release would have improved rules a bit for this.

I guess we still cannot do this, right?

Hoping they increase the time as well. I'm hoping for about an hour long timer at least. I want to be able to leave the bathroom fan on after a shower and not have to worry about forgetting to turn it off later. I like to let it run for about 20 minutes after a shower to remove the excess moisture.

Nope, still 300 seconds / 5 minute time limit.

What I do is IF No Motion for 5 Minutes, THEN Turn Off Light.

Worst that happens is I leave the room for 5 mins, light turns off, I walk back in, motion sensed, light turns on.

Having a Selectable Time Counter (seconds/minutes) would be ideal.

Haven't come up with a need for a timer based on hours that can't be handled by time of day counters.

I think greatly increasing the delay time is an important feature. Having the option to delay for hours or even days would be awesome.

Custom delay time is a great idea. Why stop at 5 minutes? Does not make sense.

Custom delay time is a great idea. Why stop at 5 minutes? Does not make sense.

To add the ability to adjust time in Minutes AND Seconds is just more development work. Not a big deal, just another task that needs to be prioritized. Remember, each "wish list" request like this is really;

>modify core software on the A+, test, debug, fix, beta release, beta test, debug, fix, re-release beta, repeat as needed, release
>modify LCD User Interface test, debug, fix, beta release, beta test, debug, fix, re-release beta, repeat as needed, release
>modify Web User Interface test, debug, fix, beta release, beta test, debug, fix, re-release beta, repeat as needed, release
>modify IOS App test, debug, fix, beta release, beta test, debug, fix, re-release beta, repeat as needed, release
>modify Android App test, debug, fix, beta release, beta test, debug, fix, re-release beta, repeat as needed, release

So at a minimum that single change becomes 5x8=40 discrete tasks or software Levels of Effort and that is being generously conservative in an estimate, it is likely much more.

It would be awesome if each of those tasks were only an hour each, but I'll wager it's more than that, but even best case that is 40 hours minimum worth of work.

All of that, and assuming you don't 'break' anything else while doing it.

So yes, we want adjustable timers that work in seconds, minutes, hours, maybe even days (though personally I'm not able to envision that need given the current time of day/day of week options), but there is nothing trivial or inexpensive about getting it done.

Having said all that, I'm ready to have it today !!   ;D

Squeaky wheel gets the grease. Keep making noise about your preferred wish list items.  8)

I see that this timing could be handled by the motion sensor itself, if it supports it. My PEQ sensors have a super short timeout and I was relying on the A+ rules to add some delay. The Aeon MultiSensor6, however, has a default motion timeout setting of 4 minutes (much better) and appears to be customizable through the LCD GUI.

I want to add my request for the delay to be more generous than 300 seconds.  There are so many great uses for a delayed rule where 5 minutes is not enough.  Thanks.

You can string many of the same action together in your rules.
Motion detected > Light on > (300sec delay) Light on > 300sec delay) Light on > 300sec delay) Light on > 300sec delay) Light on > 300sec delay) Light on

Thanks! Great tip; will give it a try.
