OpenVPN question
« on: December 22, 2015, 02:29:48 am »
Does anyone try the OpenVPN function?
I was typing/filling the blank in the OpenVPN in the Web UI using some .ovpn files as source, but so far no success.
Can anyone show me what I could miss?
Thanks.

Are you on Release 83 of the Firmware for the Almond+ ?

Also, are you talking about the VPN Server under Advanced section of Web UI?

Many of us are using the VPN Server function if that is what you are asking.

Select VPN Type (IPsec or PTPP Server)

If you choose IPsec, then Pre Shared Key is automatically selected.
Type in a "pre shared key" phrase, almost anything will work.

Local End Point Address is the WAN address of your A+
Local IP Address is the IP Address is the LAN address of your A+.

Add a username with password and assign an IP address to that user.

I just noticed that the WiKi does not have anything on the VPN so I will take care of that soon. Apologies.

If you have all of the Server side info setup correctly and are working on the client side of the OpenVPN software using an .ovpn file on your PC/MAC Client, the contents of the .ovpn file are straightforward.   https://openvpn.net/index.php/access-server/docs/quick-start-guide.html

If you are asking about the Server side from the command line, reading an .ovpn file, what are you finding when you try?

Not really sure what you are asking?
Web User Interface for the basic VPN or the OpenVPN info via the OpenWRT screens of the Web UI?

If you are trying to use OpenVPN client feature in Almond+ then please try the instruction mentioned in below link. You will find two pictures for all the settings, go through the settings I mentioned there, hopefully it will work.  :) 8)

Yes, I was trying the OpenVPN client feature.
The link doesn't seem to work. It shows "The topic or board you are looking for appears to be either missing or off limits to you."
Can you help me with that?

And Thank you SecureComp for the info!

Ok ...!!!

Follow the Picture, put those settings as it is shown in that attached picture and copy all the other option to the Additional configuration field by enabling the Advanced option (green circle one).See the attached picture(Openvpn.jpg) for reference.
Next Copy all the certificate (like server, Client and client Key certificates) if you have. See the attached picture(server client cert.jpg) for reference.
Or if you have any User name Password then just put those information in appropriate field.

Note :- Do not change TUN MTU Setting and TUN MTU Extra and left empty in TLS Auth Key field (if your provider asked to change then only change those settings).

I was curious if anyone ever got this working with PIA or any other VPN. I've followed some of their info and settings but whenever I start the client it just hangs on connecting. Looking at the interfaces it doesn't look like the connection is ever made/gets an address. I can connect no problem on my DD-WRT router but still cant figure out why I am missing with the OpenWRT settings.
