Limit of Three Static IP Addresses
« on: July 28, 2015, 01:21:10 pm »
On the NETWORK tab there seems to be the capability for specifying only three (3) Static IP addresses.

Is this correct, and/or is there another method for configuring Static IPs on this router?.

Thank you.

@ JohGalt,

On the Almond we could provide only 3 static IP addresses.

Can you provide information on which of your units provide the capability of additional Static IPs and how many Static addresses are possible?

Thank you for the prompt response.

@ JohnGalt,

You could go for Almond+ which supports upto to 8 Static IP's.

Being limited to 3 is rather disappointing; is that a limit of the UI or of the firmware itself? In either case, is it slated to be increased? I picked up an Almond (already verified it is running the newest firmware) and am working on setting it up now but the instructions on how to get to the DHCP Reservations option are not menu options on my Almond. (network --> scroll to bottom for dhcp reservations)  I have to assign 17 static IP's (DHCP Reservations) for my different physical and VM servers that I use for work along with my Ubiquiti WAN.  If the limit is 3, I will need to return this router and go back to my old $19 TEW-731BR.

If you are thinking of upgrading to an Almond+, I hit the maximum of 20 static leases with that model (not the 8 they tell you), so if you have to go beyond 20, upgrading to an A+ will not be an option for you.
I have no understanding of why there needed to be a limit on the number static leases, and there does not seem to be an answer forthcoming.

You can assign static IP's at the client and not bother with the router at all.

Great.
How?

Remember these are supposed to be "routers for humans". I for one bought one so I wouldn't have to know how to do a bunch of configuration at the client side. If we are going to be doing a bunch of client side configuration, then there needs to be some docs on what to do on the router side (turn dhcp off? Etc. Etc.).The little yellow foldout of setup instructions is clearly not doing it for a lot of people on this forum.
