Emulating VLANs with Guest Wireless
« on: March 14, 2016, 11:52:20 pm »
Greets,
I'm not using my Almond+ as my primary router. I have an EdgeRouter Lite that is my primary router. What I'd like to do is to keep the Guest Wireless "Internet Only" without network access, but still use the normal wireless and HA functions. It seems like from the control web panel that there's no easy way to arrange for this using multiple IPs/networks.

I was wondering if anyone else had tried doing something like this. I was considering maybe running the WAN port directly into one of the eth# interfaces on my EdgeRouter, taking DHCP from the EdgeRouter, and keeping the routes from going onto the network, but I'm expecting the Almond+ is still only going to have one gateway to work with, and without any way to segregate the guest traffic as being on a separate network, there won't be any way to filter one client from another.

Any thoughts?

@ DrewL,

We can't do that, as it requires VLAN.

Is Vlan going to be an option for Almond+ in the future?

@ jensenrob91,

We do have a Beta Firmware for VLAN, if you are interested to test it then send an email to ashok.kumar@securifi.com.

I'd be interested in getting access to this beta as well. I'm already at the point of having to replace the Almond+ unless I can get basic VLAN support (due to compliance needs). I already sent an email but can follow up again if need be ... thanks!

As a best practice, I would not recommend having 2 routers in play in your network. There's really no major need for it, aside from Vlanning.
The guest network in an Almond+ is segmented anyways, so I discontinued all of my vlanning at home, as this was the only purpose I had mine configured this way.

Is this still a beta-only feature? I could use a VLAN.
