Does Garage controller GD00Z-1 pair with Almond
« on: April 02, 2016, 05:20:51 pm »
I have seen where people have been able to pair the GD00Z-4 model.

I'm not able to pair the GD00Z-1. Anyone else able to pair the -1 model??

scroder mentioned that he used a GD00Z-1 in this post:
https://forum.securifi.com/index.php/topic,3322.msg20825.html#msg20825

More importantly Ashok posted that the iOS App supported it in this post:
https://forum.securifi.com/index.php/topic,3542.msg16784.html#msg16784

So it seems like you should be in good shape. I would recommend the usual:
1) Try to pair it very close to the Almond (3ft/1 meter).
2) Try resetting the GD00Z-1 to defaults before pairing.

Glad to hear it helped. Any issues at all or does it seem like a fully functional device? Just curious.

No info from OP on this, but I have the same sensor.
It was touchy to pair, but once paired, it works well.

The only issue is that it doesn't return command status for a long time.
* For the Almond UI, that's ok, because it just shows the door is "Opening" or "Closing" for that time.
* For Echo integration, Alexa will always time out and say she could not get it to work.

Also, before the door mover runs, it beeps and strobes for 5 seconds.
* This is to warn anyone in the area that the door is about to move.
* That warning cannot be adjusted nor disabled.

All of that being said, I'm happy with it.  I drive off and realize I left the door open, I can do it from the almond app.

I come home from a bike ride, and I can open the door from the app.

Now, if we could just get phone alarms, alerts, SMS, and email for sensor events, that would be even better.

Im able to pair the Z-1 but that's all.

In the LCD UI, the status is Stopped.

In the android app if im connected to the cloud the status says stopped.

in the android app if im connected locally I get a status of open or close. When I press it, the status updates but the door never responds.

I have it connected to the wall control wires at the garage opener and the sensor is pointed correctly.

any ideas. I have removed, reset and re added numerous times with the same result...

Yes, one idea.  Sorry, I forgot this.
It has to go through one manual cycle, by you pressing the button, before it will operate.
This proves to it that the tilt sensor works, etc.

After that, you'll know it's ready, because remote operation will beep and strobe for 5 seconds before operating.

When you say button do you mean the wall control?

Yes.  The wall control, and the GDZ1 should both be connected to the opener's manual activation loop.

I believe the GD is looking for the voltage drop from the wall button, so your remote won't do it.

Chamberlain, Liftmaster, Sears, etc... they're all the same.
It doesn't *really* talk with any of them.
It just simulates a plain button.

I ended up having to completely reset my GDZ1 to get it to pair with my Z-Wave controller.
The tilt sensor had to be installed on the garage door.
I had to pull the wires loose from the garage door opener that went to the button.
I had the GD wire, the button wire, and a short jumper wire go into one wire nut.
The other three into another wire nut.
The 2 jumpers went back into the normal holes for the opener.
I verified the button worked still.
After that, the GD worked fine.

All sort of a PITA, but it's nice to have now.

I know Chamberlain/Liftmaster have their own remote device with web services, alerts, etc if that seems more appealing.

i misspoke, i actually have a Genie not Chamberline.

I can try usiing a jumper, maybe im not getting a good enough connection with the existing wires going into the Genie.

On Liftmaster, they're quick-connects, so stuffing both wires in the same hole didn't work.
If your Genie uses a screw terminal, then that should be fine.
I'm not sure what the loop voltage is for Genie buttons.

Research says that some Genie openers use a digital signal instead of analog.
Here is the list of compatible openers:
http://www.nortekcontrol.com/info/Linear-GD00Z-Product-Compatibility-Notice.pdf

The alternative would be to solder the GD wires into a handheld remote's button board.

im guessing that my Genie 2022 isnt compatible possibly due to the intellicode rolling code. nothing I  have tried seems to work.

how does attaching the GD to a remote makes it work? I think I would have to use the GITR-3 remote for my opener.

So, the buttons themselves, inside, are just momentary electrical connections.
So, connecting to those, you piggyback off of whatever logic/controller is inside the button.
The button sees the GDZ activation as a physical button press, and transmits whatever magic it needs to.

Seems like a big PITA though.

I would either go with a Geni branded web service if they have one,
or replace the opener with one that is more normal.
For real, there is no reason to put a security protocol on the wall button except to lock consumers into their product brands.
I mean, sure, maybe it's a power lead, and the wall remote is the same as a key-fob remote without a battery, but that's silly.
