Can we get actual logic with the rules?
« on: February 20, 2016, 06:31:48 pm »
It would be nice to be able to add logic to these rules. The presence sensor is nice, but only partially useful as the rules are currently structured. I want it to set it away when both, my phone and my fiancee's phone aren't present. But right now, you can't do any actual logic, so as soon as one of the presence sensors disappears, it triggers the rules. Ideally, you could say if none of the presence sensors are available set to away, or inversely, if both sensors leave, set to away, but if only one leaves, and one is still on the network, do not trigger the rule.
Another thing that would be nice would be logic with the home/away modes. As it is you cannot use the modes as events, only as states. So for example, I can't say, if it's during the day, and the mode gets set to home, then unlock the door. Instead, as the rules work, it just sees them as a state, so it's either home or away, and not an action. So if you have a rule for it to unlock your door between 3 and 5pm if it's home, then if it's already home it will already do that. Instead I'd like it to be able to see that it changed from away to home during that time period, and then unlock the door, not just unlock because it's that time and the state is home.
These are just a couple examples of how good the automation could be with just a little logic in combined with what is already available.

@ Naeblis,

Thank you for your valuable suggestions. We would try our best to keep improving the features through every firmware update possible. Hopefully, through our future firmware updates you may achieve the kind of rules you would like to create.

Until they get better logic built into the A+, this is how I'm handling what you want.

  • When my phone connects, set the presence to Home
  • When my wife's phone connects, set the presence to Home
  • When both phones leave, set the presence to Away
  • When Away, lock door from garage to house and shut off all lights

Then from there, I have a Scene set up to do the following:

  • Set presence to Home
  • Unlock door from garage to house
  • Open garage door

Hope this helps.
