With new Almond devices, what is a good Access Point design
« on: January 15, 2017, 01:11:49 pm »
I have a Almond+ with zwave devices. I have a detach building otherwise know as shop, otherwise know as Man Cave. I will have a cat 6 pulled from the Almond+ to inside. The building is metal, I took our Echo out there and it would not connect. I betting any zwave devices will have the same issue.
The wish list is I could put some Almond device that will not only work as a Access Point/Repeater but would work as a repeater for zwave. Whats my best options?

All of the plug-in Z-wave devices are repeaters, so you could strategically place one or more of them to get the signal across.

Right now the Almond+ is the nearest zwave device to the building. (I'm guessing) The building NW corner is about 50 feet SE of the Almond+. But line of sight would be through 4 wall's, one being brick. The way the building was built it is a giant faraday cage. There is a lot of rebar welded to plates, inside piers, that all the metal ultimately attaches to. The act as a Ufer ground.

I don't think distance will be the issue, the fact that it is a metal building is.  I have not testing any zwave yet, but as I said, my Echo could not connect. It could be a combination of metal building and distance. So I know I will need some sort of access point. What I was wondering, does Almond that supports access point also relay zwave?

I do have a power strip controlled with zwave device. Now that I have some power into the building I could do some testing with it.
