Using Alexa
« on: May 28, 2017, 08:08:07 am »
I would like to start using Alexa. I am a newbie to Alexa. In other words don't assume. :-)
I have enabled the skill and discovered devices. My first issues, Alexa app only discovers one device.
For a "hello world" I would like to control the garage door.
What are some trouble shooting steps?
Moving from Tuxedo to Almond+
And Loving it.

It sounds like a similar issue a friend of mine was having, I'm gonna show them your question and then get back to you with an adequate response.

@ penright,

We need to check if the support for the Garage door function has been added or not through Alexa. Hence, please help us with the make and the model number of Garage door sensor and also, send us the log files with a description "logs for jagdish", so that we can check and get back to you.

By this question, I assume just because a device class is supported in Almond, does not mean it is supported in Alexa? That might explain a lot, I have three classes.
1. Binary Switch
2. Door Opener/tilt sensor (GoControl/Linear GD00Z-4 Z-Wave)
3. Dual Switch (Vision In Wall Z-Wave Micro Switch, 2 relay)

I thought Alexa was commanding the Almond, in other words if Almond supported it then Alexa would. How does the support for Alexa work?

No, whatever Almond device is supporting Alexa won't support them all. There are few sensors, where Amazon is yet to add the support for. To my best knowledge, Amazon doesn't support Garage Door openers.

Sorry took so long, been on vacation. Since only the binary switch showed up, then of my devices, that is all that is supported.
So who is commanding the device, Alexa or A+?

The Echo, via Alexa, sends a command to the Almond to trigger certain actions. Unfortunately, Amazon has restricted what type of devices are permitted to be controlled by Alexa right now. They have removed some of them and hopefully will remove some more. That aspect is fully out of Securifi's and any other HA manufacturers' hands.
