Random Reboots [Duplicate thread {Previous from 2014}]
« on: June 27, 2017, 02:36:36 pm »
Hi,

I have had an almond+ for about 3 months and I am experiencing weird issues with the unit randomly rebooting.

Since i have had the unit i have had to do 2 factory resets, now the unit is randomly rebooting [A LOT......28 times in about 6 hours 28 minutes {i'm sad enough to have timed and counted}]. I have had the problem before hence one of the factory resets and firmware is up to date.

Any Suggestions?

Kira

I was the other guy having problems. Does it have to do with our names being similar?

Anyway, the way I resolved it was to buy a USB powered fan and place it on top of the almond. That reduced the heat as well as the reboots.

What eliminated the reboots completely was turning the wireless off and buying a new wireless router. Now the Almond+  is just a smart home hub and a wired router, but hey it's stable now.

I've been experiencing similar issues in my Almond+, and was wondering how you determined it was a heat issue?
Is there a temperature measurement anywhere in the logs?

It does feel a little warm to the touch, and I've been wondering if moving it around to help with cooling.
Currently sitting on a bookshelf, and I'm thinking if it was elevated somehow (or even wall-mounted) it may help with convective through-flow.

Watch out with the wall mounting. I know they supplied a nice convenient wall mount plate...don't use it (at least in the manner they tell you to). Wall mounting it flush against the wall results in instant overheating.
What I did was repurpose the stand up mount as a wall mount. I drilled out two mounting holes in it (using the wall mount as a screw hole placement guide), and used longer screws using a 1/2inch bushing on each between the plate and the wall to offset the entire unit and allow airflow behind it.
Flush mounting it is just asking for it to overheat.
