Greetings to fellow almondistas.

Hi,  I'm Marc.

IT consultant based in Cheshire, UK.

Round where I live, there are a lot of old houses with thick walls (3' thick, in some cases), so I'm always looking for a nice solution to getting wifi around the place.

I read about the Almond 3, and thought I'd take a look; the home automation and the mesh networking capabilities make this seem like a really good option.

Trying to work out the best way to get it to play nicely with my existing router, though.

There seem to be a few problems with the Almond as a router;
  • Doesn't support port-mapping with port-change
  • Doesn't support multi-NAT

So, trying to get it to use my existing router as a WAN, and be able to blend the two networks (by restricting the DHCP IP range on the Almond to a small subset of the available IPs).

I'll let you know how it goes.

If I can get to grips with the way this thing works, I can probably sell a load of these things.

Welcome!

The Almond 3 does not allow port forwarding with port change at this time, that is correct. It gets me also...
Have never needed multi-NAT so never really thought of it myself.
Almond 3 mesh handling the home.
