Preventing SPAM
« on: February 27, 2014, 01:48:44 am »
Hi.
Recently there has been quite some spam on this board.

Since this is a quite specific type of forum, it would be quite easy to prevent it.

A simple way is to require the first few posts of a user to be moderated, for example during registration it is suggested to head over to the Introduce yourself board and do just that, to Introduce yourself.
Then if they want to post something and the introduction could not determine that this was not a Spammer, then this will also be moderated to see that it is actually related to the subjects of this board.
It will probably be enough with one post during Introduction for a human moderator to see that this is not a spammer and then enable them to continue posting unmoderated, if not then the second post will for sure show if they are a spammer?

I have a notification on pretty much every board to be able to take part in the discussions when it happens, and I get quite a few "notifications" when the spammer get's going and it is only going to get more.

Let me know if you need help moderating, with a few moderators it will be faster for a person who needs help to get verified.

PS. there seems to be a bug in the report function, the page times out, I tried it two times now.
