Title: Integrating Google Home Into Almond Home Automation
Post by: atrueresistance on November 09, 2016, 11:28:23 am
Just got the Google Home all setup and was working with it a bit. I am able to program sayings using IFTTT for my GHome. IFTTT let's you type in a phrase and then some optional ways to say what you are trying to achieve differently.

For instance, up to 5 total.
Code: [Select]
Ok Google, Turn the Shop lights on.
Ok Google, Turn the garage lights on.
Ok Google, Turn the bar lights on.
Ok Google, Turn the bar area lights on.

The problem is the THEN part.

Currently on IFTTT the only two options I am presented with is to set the router in home/away mode and set a scene. There is no way to trigger individual lights/devices.

Has anyone figured out a way to do this?

Not available yet. Is being updated to include that ability. In the meantime you'll need to make a scene for each of those phrases and have the phrase control the scene. (two scenes if you want to turn on and off the lights)

I was able to setup some simple light on/off, door lock/unlock IFTTT actions with google Home (Assistant) and Almond. Assistant is the IfT (I use "say a simple phrase") to activate a scene in Almond as the TT . Neat thing is you can get assistant to respond with anything you want.

using Almond+ and IFTTT I got to bed by saying "Hey Google Going to bed". Google Home responds with a 'good night". Home then activates a scene on mt Almond that turns my thermostat down to 66, turns off my light, and locks my front Door. It works really reliably and the entire activity is complete in about 6 seconds.

I am working on adding the task of Harmony turning off my tv as well but IFTTT can not yet use multiple actions.

I gotta ask, how do you know this is being worked on and do you have an ETA? Just got Google Home and would have liked to skip all of the IFTTT steps even though it was pretty simple. I still would rather have native support since the more steps the more things can go wrong.   :)

They are working on it refers to the IFTTT changes (activating single devices etc) Google Home is currently a CLOSED eco system that Google claims they will open up early in 2017 (I believe January) until then you cannot develop for it unless you are a partner with Google.
