Title: Wifi Extender - Can't Change Security Settings
Post by: budowski on December 27, 2016, 05:08:09 pm
Hi,

I'm connecting Almond extender to an open network, but I can't seem to change Almond's wifi settings to add encryption/password on top of that (I can only change the SSID of the network).
Is that because Almond functions as a wifi extender/repeater?

Thanks

Yes, for now, we would not be able to secure the network (band) through which the extender is connected to, because it acts like a mirror image to the main source network. However, as it comes with dual band other band can be secured the way we want.

Thanks for the quick reply! :-)
1. So how do I configure the other band for that? Do you happen to have a link for that part of the manual?
2. If I do configure that other band, will that means that the first band (the mirrored one) will still be open and accessible to anyone?

Thanks very much!

Yes I believe so. Are you able to secure the open network you are extending?

@ budowski,

If you are extending 2.4Ghz, then, tap on 5Ghz and change the security from unsecured to WPA/WPA2. However, we would not be able to make any security changes to the network (band) to which the Almond 3 is connected and it would still be open.

On the other hand, you would have the ability to find out what all network devices are connected to Almond 3 and then block/allow it accordingly. Thank you!
