Title: Apple HomeKit

It would be nice if the Almond+ would be integrated with Apple HomeKit.

It's really too early to say if we can/will be allowed to. We're of course following it and we're going to do our best to make sure we get access to it once Apple decides to release it to partners and developers.

Apple's HomeKit SDK was released back in June, even though the iOS 8 hasn't been released yet.  Other Home Automation developers had already start writing and testing their codes on iOS 8 simulator.  Are you guys planning to support HomeKit?

Well, Apple hasn't approved us yet as a developer, so we don't actually have access to anything and until we're approved, there isn't much we can do.

I'll add my +1 to the Apple Homekit idea. Seem like it would be a good fit with the current offering, giving an extra layer of control..

Any official news on Homekit support or approval by Apple as a developer?

Nope, not a peep from Apple's side so far. They seem fairly selective as to whom they grant access and it seems like router manufacturers isn't one they're planning on supporting.

Lars,

I might be wrong, but I don't think there is any special approval process for HomeKit (for example, like there is right now for CarPlay). HomeKit API has been out there for a while, albeit not much example code out there. All that might be needed is a homekit layer between the iOS app for almond and homekit. The rest should be pretty much the same. Now if you want to put "Made For iOS" logo on the router then thats a completely different thing.

The thing is, you have to register with Apple as a homekit developer and they haven't approved us, so we're a bit at a loss as to what we can do about that. It looks like they're ignoring gateway/router companies for now at least.

Any news on this process? I would be surprised if Apple were to exclude you simply because in addition to a home automation controller you're also a router. They could at least allow access to only the automation side of things.
