Title: Belkin WeMo Support
Post by: Xero on December 16, 2014, 08:28:14 pm
Hello,

I am looking forward for more improvements in the Home Automation in the Almond+. This product is wonderful and has a lot of potential and I look forward to seeing it evolve to become the best it can be.

Belkin WeMo provides basic home automation devices that are simple to install and connect though wifi. They provide plugs for lamps and light switches for the wall. WeMo devices can be controlled though the WeMo app for iOS and Android.

They also offer a SDK:

An example of implementation:

It would be nice to use the Almond+ for basic operations of the WeMo switches, like on/off. That way the Almond+ can be a bridge between WeMo with Z-Wave, Zigbee and other IP-based products such as the Philips Hue.

I understand that the Almond+ developers have a lot of work to do and have to prioritize features so that is why this is a suggestion. I am looking forward to all the improvements to come for the Almond+.

Thank you.

I have six Belkin Wemo switches in my house which Alexa can integrate with perfectly. I just invested in the Almond 3 and surprise! I thought it was compatible with Wemo! Is it not? I could swear I read a review where it said it was. It appears though that it is only compatible with Wemo light bulbs. Because it isn't, I have to broadcast my old wifi for the wemos, and the new wifi under the Almond 3. By no means is this satisfactory.

Wemos can connect to the almond 3 WiFi. They cannot be controlled by the almond home automation app.

Almond 3 does not control devices via WiFi basically. ZigBee, Z-Wave, Nest API, and Hue are the direct methods at this time.
Plus it can interact with Amazon Alexa (using the Almond skill) and with IFTTT.

There would appear to be some conflicting information here vs this thread?  https://wiki.securifi.com/index.php?title=WeMo_Smart_LED_bulb

Well, that is very interesting news. I would trust the wiki unless someone comes out saying it is wrong. It IS possible for Securifi to make WiFi devices work... there just were not many examples of it.

Good catch Sparroe!

So I got a reply from support after messaging them for the second time, they responded with "It doesnt look possible". So I guess thats that.
