Title: Using as a router from one wifi network to another
Post by: alexgalt on December 28, 2014, 12:28:14 am
The use case is thus:

I travel often and would like to bring my Roku player with me. The problem is that hotel wifi requires you to log in through a capture page (name and room number usually). Roku does not have a browser and is not capable of doing this task. The idea is to use the Almond on the hotel wifi and go through the capture page once with my laptop. After that, the Almond has normal access to the wifi and has an SSID that just has regular security without the capture screen. The Roku can then connect to the Almond.

I guess what i am looking for is a wifi-wifi router, but it does not seem like the Almond can do that.

As long as hotel wifi is not encrypted to block an extender, we can setup the Almond in Range Extender mode. However, please note that the authentication process could be done only on the client devices (Laptop, iPad, etc.,). Moreover, there are possibilities that on few cases each and every device has to be authenticated to get the internet access, in that case you may not be able to connect Roku to internet.

Hence, if you are connecting the Almond to a network which needs authentication only once using any client device (Laptop, iPad, etc.,) to get the internet access then you can connect the Roku to Almond's network with out any concerns.
