Title: Linear WD500Z (Wall Dimming Switch)
Post by: bwainscott on August 19, 2014, 10:52:09 pm
This shows up as an unsupported device, and there is no ability to do anything with it from the web interface.  From the touchscreen UI there are options to "get" and "set" a numeric value.  Setting a 0 turns it off, and setting higher numbers turns it on at various levels of brightness, so it does know how to talk to this device.  It just has no idea that it is a dimmer light switch.  Hey Securifi -- please pick up one of these while you are at it.  They are the best deal I've seen on what looks like a good dimmer switch here in the US, and I plan to buy several of them!

Do me a favour, add it to your Almond+, once done, go to Help, Send Logs and send a log. In the text box, please add the name of the sensor.
If it's not something really strange, we might just be able to add support for it this way, since we already support dimmers.

Lars -- Done.  I just removed the sensor, then added it again.  It first appeared as "UnknownDevice #7" or something like that.  I renamed it "FamilyRoom" and sent the log.  I put the following in the comment field of the log: "unknown device FamilyRoom is dimmer switch"

I hope that helps!

Ah, I wanted you to put Linear WD500Z in the send log window. Renaming the sensor doesn't matter.
Can you please re-send the log? Sorry if I wasn't being clear.

Log resent, with description "Linear WD500Z"

(I removed and re-added it again).

Thanks!

Cool, I've made sure they're aware of it.

I've got this one too - hoping to get some supported actions from it as it looks fairly significant from the specs - let me know if you need anything else, I would be happy to send.

Mind sharing the manual if you have it?

Hoping for support for this in a future firmware (R67?), but I was wondering if there is anything I can do about this myself.  The LCD allows me to get/set values which DO control the light, so it looks to me like a case of the A+ just not recognizing the device type, since it can clearly talk to it.  Is there some kind of database or configuration file on the A+ somewhere that maps device ID strings to device type/capability?  I don't imagine support for every single device out there has to be hard coded into the firmware (that would be a nightmare).

If there is a database like this that the users can play with, we'd love to help broaden the sensor support base.  I tutorial on how to add sensors (assuming the basic support for that sensor type is in the firmware) would be VERY nice...

I don't think it'll be in R067 as they've worked on a million and one other things, but it should be in R068.

Just want to note that these dimmers are the same as Evolve LRM-AS dimmers (Evolve rebranded Linear products).

Evolve LRM-AS == Linear WD500Z
Evolve LTM-5 == Linear WT00Z1
Evolve LSM-15 == Linear WS15Z-1

For details, see (http://goo.gl/XcNMIQ).

Lars,

Can you give us a definitive answer if this will be supported in R068? I understand your team have a ton of things to work on but if this is just a simple line of code (I'm assuming here, since you mentioned you already support dimmers), why is it taking almost 3 months to implement? Just trying to get some answers, don't get me wrong here.

Thank you!

No, it won't be in R068, since that'll technically be R067 now.
I'll do my best to get it into the next firmware though and it really shouldn't be that hard...

Yes please (for support in R069)!  I have two of these (and plans for several more) but only one installed -- I didn't see any point in installing the others until the A+ can talk to the one I have.  Any chance that the matching WT00Z-1 will be supported also (required for 3-way operation)?  Most of my existing switches are 3 way...

Looking forward to firmware R069....

I just updated to R069 and it seems the Linear switch support didn't make it into this build.  Any updates on will this will be supported?  Thanks.

I have this Z-Wave dimmer switch (http://www.linearcorp.com/product_detail.php?productId=1573) installed and paired with the Almond+, but it isn't supported.  Any chance support is added sometime in the future?

Edit: Looks like this is already being discussed here: http://forum.securifi.com/index.php/topic,1506.0.html

Thanks,
Mike

Since it was asked earlier in the thread, here are the links to the docs for the switch:

Thanks, but sadly none of that is useful as it doesn't cover the Z-Wave end of things, just the physical installation.

Hmm, I'm not sure what kinds of information you'd be looking for but the manual does include a bunch of details about supported Z-Wave commands, and other configuration stuff not related to the physical installation (assuming you didn't already take a look at it).

Sorry, you're right, that's more detailed than most of their manuals. We're working on adding this for the next firmware release and it'll be the only new sensor/device addition to that release.

I look forward to doing more with this switch. I have 3 I am trying to figure where to put. The problem I have is that almost every dimmer we have has multiple switches... For some reason the switches that work with these to replace 3-way setups are even more expensive! Annoying.

Lars -- good to hear these may be supported in the next firmware!  Thanks for that.  Most all my setups are 3-way switches also, so of course I'm hoping you can add support for the  WT00Z-1 next (or at least soon).  Keep up the good work, and let the software team know we appreciate their efforts.

This paired in earlier releases as an unknown device. Now, in R070 the switch pairs and shows up as a multilevel switch as it should and is managable using the app or touchscreen/web app. Due to some unknown error I'm not able to add mine anymore, the manual doesn't include any factory reset instructions and there are no other switches besides the air gap and the bright/dim on off buttons. The device will not show up in 'remove sensor' so i'm sure it thinks it's still paired. same with the cree connected light bulbs. luckily the cree bulbs have a factory reset procedure.

Did you have to re-pair the switch?  I updated the Almond+ and the previously paired WD500Z still shows up as unsupported.

Just confirming that re-pairing did the trick.

Z-Wave devices have to be unpaired before they can be added again.
Use the Remove option under Add Sensor, perform the pairing on the Z-Wave device, in this case, pressing the button a couple of times should do the trick and then it should be possible to pair it again.

pressing the button a couple of times. From personal experience I had to press the top of the toggle switch 70,000 times to get it to remove and 3,900 times to get it to add. but it worked and it still works.

interesting... I have 4 of these dimmers, and all are recognized and working in the current firmware 70 after the upgrade. Not sure why mine work and not for others.

I have 3 myself and all have worked since R069 (I did not have to re-pair them with R070). I DID have to re-pair them with R069 (they had been added earlier but were unsupported). The process is rough but that appears to be more on the Linear side than Securifi's. Not quite as bad as jamenlang though...
