Title: Almond repeater keeps dropping internet
Post by: LeoB on February 21, 2014, 03:59:12 pm
Last summer I bought an Almond to use as a repeater to get wifi to the third floor of the house (router is on the ground floor). It was a Cisco g router at the time. I put the Almond on the second level next to the stairs, and it set up fine. It boosted the signal to the top floor from 2 bars to 4 bars. Everything was fine for well over six months.

I recently bought another Almond to replace the old Cisco g router to get n router speeds.  I left the Almond repeater in the same place. It seemed to set up fine and was showing five bars (excellent) on the third floor, but after a while users on the third floor began complaining about the internet dropping frequently and slow internet start-up. I began troubleshooting today when I had time.

**  I reset both Almonds. No change.
**  I changed channels on both Almonds. No change.
**  I began monitoring a PC and a Windows laptop on the third floor. Sure enough, every once in a while the wireless connection indicator on the toolbar would say "no internet access," and then in a while it would reconnect. It always showed five bars.
** I disconnected the PC and laptop from the Almond repeater, turned off the Almond repeater, and connected both directly to the Almond router on the first floor. Although just showing three bars, the internet connection is stable and did not drop in hours of use.

So -- it appears that the Almond as a repeater does not work with an Almond as a router?

Have you experienced any recent Power Outages or Surges at your location?

Please contact support@securifi.com to see if they can swap out your original Almond for you.  It sounds like it is no longer functioning properly.  They may ask you to do some basic troubleshooting first,  but I suspect they will offer to replace it for you.  Two Almonds should work perfectly in this configuration,  so I definitely suspect issues with the original one. .

This is a suggestion:

You may swap the almonds.
The Range extender will become the router and the router will be the range extender just after hard resetting them (with the stylus or a pen).
