Title: Almond not working with Surfboard SB6141 Modem
Post by: z64dan on November 18, 2013, 10:07:32 am
Right now I'm typing to you while directly connected to my modem with an ethernet cable, because my Almond router stopped connecting to the internet.

I bought a modem for my cable internet (instead of paying $6/mo to rent one), and then I bought the Almond router, which seemed like a good idea.

I plugged everything in a few days ago, and it all worked great. Until last night some time. Some time in the middle of the night, the Almond router stopped being able to connect to the internet through my modem.

While the router is plugged into the modem (since last night), the modem's bottom light is blinking orange, which apparently means "Amber: A device, PC, or hub is connected to the Ethernet (10Base-T) or Fast Ethernet (100Base-T) port" while it was normally blinking blue, for "Blue*: High-speed Gigabit Ethernet (1000Base-T) connection from the SB6141 to your PC".

On my Almond router touchscreen, it shows that there is no internet connection, and it is set up as DHCP / cable modem. Again, these settings all worked until last night, and now the router doesn't seem to want to connect to the modem, even though nothing has changed. I didn't update any firmware or change anything at all.

My set up when this was working was (all in the same room), My PC > ethernet > almond router > ethernet > cable modem > cable from wall.
Now to use the internet, it's just MY PC > ethernet > cable modem > cable from wall.

I've already tried unplugging the modem/router, connecting it all properly, turning on modem and waiting for internet connection, and then turning on the router. No dice...

Does anyone have any troubleshooting tips for this? I've got to go to work right now so I'll probably reply later today when I get home.

First of all, did you try resetting the router?
If that fails, please contact our support team - support@securifi.com as they'll be able to guide you further and worst case, arrange for a replacement router for you.

Hi Lars,

Do you mean unplugging the router and plugging it back in? I've tried that.

Is there some other mechanism for resetting it?

Thanks

No, that wouldn't reset it, that would just power it off and back on again. There's a small hole just above where the stylus is located, if you use the stylus to press the button inside the whole the router will reset. You might also want to power off your modem for a minute and then set everything up again from scratch, as some modems won't issue a new IP address to the router unless they're powered off for a short while. If this doesn't help, then please ping our support team on the above email address and they'll follow up with you and try to resolve whatever is going on.
