Title: What is the ONE router feature you would like to see in our Mobile App
Post by: Ashok on August 20, 2015, 09:13:38 am
Hi All,

We would like to know "What is the ONE router feature you would like to see in our Mobile app"...?

Note: Only the router feature not related to HA.

That is a difficult questions, most things related to the mobile app involves the home automation features.

The only thing that springs to mind is a feature to enable/disable port forwardings, so to enable remote access either to the webUI of the Almond+ or to a server or other network device that is behind the Almond+.
A permanent port forwarding can in many instances be crazy dangerous so that could be nice feature to have.

Not sure if it counts as a router feature, but I want to get a notification if Almond loses internet connection. And when I log in to the app, I want to see the last time Almond connectd to the cloud. When we start using Almond for security this is very important.

For me, being able to view my already installed IP cam's would be great and add greatly to the security feature... basement door alarm -> heres a photo / video of just before and after the alarm. As far as other stuff, I'd love to be able to view my home's external IP address, I pay for a DDNS but it just went up and my ip changes so rarely I don't think its worth it anymore.

On Android, being able to integrate with Tasker would be a huge win, for me. Specifically being able to trigger home/away by some external event (NFC, WiFi connection, nearby cell tower, etc) would be most excellent, as well as being able to hook into notifications, i.e. get an alert that a motion detector has triggered, and automatically loading up an IP camera viewer app.

I want to be able to write my own interface (in android or web).   Barring that the ability to create android widgets with simple controls (toggle or slider) that will then control perform user configurable actions. (turn on these lights, or adjust this group of lights).  And user configurable dashboards that display the sensor states you want to see.

Although honestly I just want a rest API (that's secured) that I can talk to that will control/read my sensors/products.

I love the Almond routers and I love HA! I would really like to be able to recommend this router to all my fellow techs for home and small business installs and remote management. The fact that it has HA support is the biggest selling point, so all that’s left is getting the router WiFi and network more stable and having a lot more remote management options and features. Some of us manage multiple sites (routers and AP's in different locations) so it would be nice to add support for multiple routers from different sites to the mobile app and it would be nice to have more options for managing the routers WAN/LAN/WiFi/Router settings remotely along with extra security. Here are some things I would add for router remote management via the mobile app:

1. Extra security.
-Within the mobile app, make it so you have to re-type in the admin username and password of that particular router to access the router functions/management, just like if you logged in via the Web GUI. This would be different than the password for the online account and different for every router on my account. This would also be useful if you manage a few different routers at different site locations.
-Have some verification either in the online account or on the router itself that verifies what mobile devices (phones) have logged into my mobile app account (kind of like how gmail notifies you if another new device logs into your email account. This would be useful in case someone gets a hold of my "connect.securifi.com" account credentials and downloads the app onto their phone without me knowing and has full access to my routers and sensors. It would be nice if I have a way to check how many/which devices are using my mobile account app login.

2. More remote management options via the mobile app.
It would be nice to have all the management options available via the webgui (and more), also available on the mobile app for managing the router and proper network management. Things like:
--WAN settings
        IP address
        Subnet Mask
        Gateway
        DNS 1, 2, 3 etc
--LAN settings
        IP address
        Subnet Mask
        Gateway
        Local DNS
--DHCP settings
        DHCP Type
        DHCP server (enable, disable)
        Maximum DHCP Users
        Client Lease time
        DNS
        WINS
--Port Forwarding
--Firmware update
--Logs
--DMZ
--Filtering
--Firewall rules
--Switch the router from router DHCP mode to AP.
--Change the router name.
--Reset to factory defaults.
--Time zone settings.
Etc.

3. More WiFi Settings and management
--Change the 2.4Ghz channels.
--Change the 5Ghz channels.
--Change the SSID encryption /security type
--Change the SSID password (have a password masked/unmasked feature for security).
--Wireless SSID broadcast (on/off)
--Wireless Network Mode (Disabled/Mixed/G-only/ N-only/A-only/NG-mixed/BG mixed/etc)
--Network configuration (unbridged/bridged)

4. Scheduling for the WiFi networks both regular and guest networks.
--Schedule options to be able to turn on and off the individual WiFi SSIDs at certain hours in the day and certain days in the week.

5. Scheduled router reboot
--It would be nice to have options for a scheduled reboot of the Almond router (like every Sunday 2am) etc.

6. Keep alive/watchdog
--Keep alive/watchdog options.

Might be more but that’s all I can think of at the moment. You guys are doing a great job! I’m sure you don’t have all the resources you need but it seems like you’re doing a lot compared to the current big players with huge budgets. I love your products and ambitions-concepts and ideas! I REALLY hope you succeed to become a major player in the network/router/HA world!

Stay logged in - I should be able to use a pin or touch-id or similar to get into the app once I've logged in once.  My phone already requires authentication, so I should have the option of not re-logging at the app level.

Alternative features:
* Initiate a firmware update.  I know, firmware updates when not at the unit... eek, but still.
* mirror the front panel - maybe anything you can do there could be done on the app though an extra menu.

Just curious - what is the reason to reboot the router once per week?
Thanks,

Thanks,
Elliott

This option is available in DD-WRT. We've found it quite useful when setting up routers for clients or working on old, problematic or buggy routers. When we schedule an automatic reboot of the router once a week, we get a lot less complaints of network issues. We usually ask the clients when they most likely won't be online and if they don't mind us setting an automatic reboot. The most common time is the late hours of Sunday night or early hours Monday morning. See a screenshot here here (http://"http://setuprouter.com/router/linksys/dd-wrt-v24-sp2/general-40108-large.jpg") (not affiliated with this website) or the image below:

Leaving out any home automation becuase this would be what I would focus on in the mobile app, I like the scheduling a reboot since I pretty much have to do it every couple of days to get my performance back up......

My suggestion is a bit of a stop-gap.  Twice last week I returned home to all GE link lights on (due to power failure).  The app did not report any of these lights as on.  If I knew that the A+ was reporting the state correctly, I could create a rule (all lights on? then turn all lights off).  Until this is possible, it would be nice to receive a notification when the A+ boots up.  If this happens in the middle of the day, I know there was a power outage and I need to turn off all the lights.

PS: I dread the day when there is a power outage in the middle of the night and all the lights turn on.

It would be great to have a simplified IFTT or whatever it's called.  Have you seen Piper's app? Simplified interface for turning a switch on or off based on time, light/dark conditions, etc.  KISS - keep it simple stupid...simple simple simple please where is take little technical effort to setup rules.

- Would love to be able to add names to my device MACs so that when devices attach I'll know what it is.

- Wish I could have sunrise/sunset rules so that I can turn on/off a light based on the sun instead of a hard-coded time. Also would be good if it was sunrise/sunset plus or minus some offset so I can turn on a light some time before sunset and turn it back off sometime after sunrise.

The newest release is looking pretty good!

I want to change my reply. Definitely the thing I want the most is for a rule to be able to send an email. Now that it's possible for my almond to know if I'm home or not, I would like to have a rule that sends me an email if I'm not home and my door opens. A text message would also be acceptable or even a notification on my Almond iOS app.

Since my Almond+ screen is garbled and unreadeable  :-\ :-\ :-\, I'd like to be able to access the same interface from the app instead of the integrated display.

I'd also like to get back the possibility to configure the connected stuff from the web interface like it did in version 083.

Create, Activate, and Deactivate rules

Change the order of the sensors and the Scenes, creating Folders/Subfolders for them.

For example:

On Sensor page:
One folder for lights
Another Folder for thermostats
A 3rd Folder for Motion Detectors/Home security

Same thing for Scenes:
One folder for 1st floor or Atrium/Entry
Another folder for 2nd floor or Living Room
Another folder for 3rd floor or Bedroom

Etc.

@Peachykola,
You can have a set of rules now that would change your home/away mode based on a presence sensor.
Example: I have my phone (and my wife's) set as presence sensors. When both have left the network a rule is triggered that sets the house to away. When either rejoins the network, another rule is triggered that sets the house to home.

Is that what you are looking for? You could have follow-up rules for when your house is in home/away mode, or other items in those same rules so particular things will happen then.

Same goes for me on this one.

I understand that you can now sort of order your devices with the location but a Folder would be a nice thing to add. Not that you have to use the feature but just another way of sorting.

Another thing that I am having issues sorting/seeing are the Scenes area of the Android app. So, I am starting to create Scenes and they work well but sorting is an issue.  A Folder structure here would help as well.

And 1 other thing, I can't figure out the color scheme as well in the Scenes area and the only thing I can tell if that the first color is green in the list then it goes orange and then red.  It just loops over and over with no way to change the colors. It would be nice if we could order them like in the Devices area with a location and a color changer or something.

+ HomeKit support
+ Lock screen support (activating scenes and such)
+ better activity logging like a transaction log of which scenes were activated, what rules were run and what activated them (LCD, rule, web, app (which one), IFTTT, etc). This will make it a lot easier to figure out why something happened or didn't when it was/wasn't expected and for efficient automation configuration.

Otherwise the app is pretty good. I use it all the time, mostly to activate scenes and control devices.

FYI Homekit is unlikely due to hardware requirements.
Lock screen support? Like Widgets on iOS? It is available via IFTTT right now.
Agree on the logging and I believe it is something that is eventually planned.

Setup a scene you want to activate with your widget/shortcut.
Sign up for and sink IFTTT with your Securifi account.
Set up a "DO" button applet and place the button on your screen via normal widget process.
This works for iOS and Android BUT iOS and Android have different widget styles.

1. Location based rule setting to arm and disarm e.g. if all of the four mobile phones are in specific location area, then disarm almond+ and if any of the four devices is in location/area, unarm

2. Allow arm and disarm of Blink cameras from Mobile app when Almond is armed/unarmed.

1. Possible using location based rule (if I understand question correctly)
2. Possible by turning on / off WiFi Access for the Blink cameras

Arm = Away
Disarm = Home

I'd like to be able to add/remove a device via the phone app (not just via the local web interface or the unit itself).

DEFINITELY, DEFINITELY, a much better and more user friendly bandwidth monitoring feature s it is easier to tellw/c devices are eating how much bandwidth.

Logging of device browser history without paying a subscription fee.  I am tempted to just by Torch router for this but it would make things more complicated having wi-fi just for that and the Almond router for all the other smart home things I use.  Not looking for https://www.securifi.com/iot-security fees which isn't supported on Almond+ anyway.

I would love to see 2 new features (these have probably been brought up before).

1. The ability to combine in the IF statements an (AND+OR) statement for the THEN action to occur.
2. Ability to set a BETWEEN statement for sunset to sunrise.

Example combining the 2: IF (my phone OR my wife's phone is connected to the network) AND (the time/weather is any time between SUNSET and SUNRISE) THEN> turn on X lights. Right now I have to have this setup as separate rules for her phone and my phone, AND we have to be connected to the network AT SUNSET. So also right now, I have it setup as a BETWEEN statement based on my rough estimate of when sunset will occur and like 4am.

Make sense?

Hi All,

We would like to know "What is the ONE router feature you would like to see in our Mobile app"...?

Note: Only the router feature not related to HA.

My suggestion is the simplest one: data usage statistics (per device, total device, per time period, etc.)

Thanx!

Hi @kcrxs95

The option to reboot the Almond is available in the mobile app. Go to settings->Reboot Almond, click on Reboot Almond and then click on Reboot in the alert box, this will reboot your Almond.

Note: Almond should be online, for this to work.

Thank you.
