When is a newer version of the firmware coming?
-
We're currently testing a beta release to make sure things are working properly. Due to all the changes implemented this time. i.e. new Wi-Fi drivers etc. its taking a bit longer to test this release. I'm afraid I don't have an exact release date as yet.

Any chance of a rough estimate, such as by the end of the month or the next? It's not usually a habit for me to check the forum daily, sometimes not even weekly, and a good timeframe for when to check would be awesome.
-
I honestly don't know.
We'll post an update on Kickstarter and on the blog when the new firmware is released.
We're also going to add a feature to the LCD UI and longer term the mobile apps where you'll get a notification when there's a new firmware available.

I was told that this update would be the last that we need to manually install through the web UI. Does that mean that we will do it manually for R066 to R067 but going to R068 will be done on the Almond+ touchscreen directly?
-
Yes, that's correct, it's there in the UI already under settings, software update.
-
Is there a somewhat steady Beta Available. I am constantly disconnecting my iphones and ipads from the wireless. Its making it more and more difficult to do anything.
-
Is there any possibility to get the beta version R067?
With R066 my macbook and my iphone is unable to download anything except of web surfing.. that is horrible.. it can't be worse with a beta version..
-
Can we know if it's in QA yet or still Dev? Anything really - the iOS stuff is bothersome and so is the fact that my time machine backup started to become unreliable after the R066.
-
Do I have to install R066 before I install R067?
-
The new firmware is being tested, but we've decided to split it in two due to some issues with the range extender that's taking longer to solve than we'd hoped for.
As such the next release will include most fixes, but not the new Wi-Fi drivers that we've promised, since if we include those, the range extender won't work.
As for the upgrade path, no, you wouldn't need to install R066 to go to R067 when it's released.
-
You've got to be kidding. I don't give a rat's bunny about the range extender, I care about half my devices constantly needing to be babied to stay connected to my router. IMO, you should strongly consider releasing two separate branches of the firmware, then, one with the wi-fi drivers and one without.
-
Hopefully it won't be too far between R067 and R068, but as the new Wi-Fi drivers require a lot of other changes as well, it's not that simple.
We know this is a frustrating problem and we're trying to get the new drivers out in a firmware as quickly as possible, but we don't want to release yet another firmware that's causing problems.
-
I've got to 2nd gergles here. The current version of the Almond+ is failing one of its primary functions, that being to provide wireless connectivity (the word reliable shouldn't be optional there). If it comes down to releasing new firmware that will (hopefully) fix the current lack of reliability, or incorporates range extension functionality that would undoubtedly be useful/required by only a fractional percentage of the user base, I'd say the priority should be clear to the development team. If it's not, it may be time for a survey of owners for our input.
-
Sorry, but it's not going to happen as we haven't done enough testing with the new Wi-Fi drivers as yet and as I mentioned above, we don't want to release another firmware that has more issues.
Yes, we're aware a fair few people are having issues with the current Wi-Fi drivers, but this is why we also want to make sure things are working properly, instead of releasing something that will cause further frustration, it's not just a matter of the range extender, as that's just one of the concerns we have.
We're testing a firmware based on the new drivers, but it hasn't been 100% smooth sailing, but in general it's proven to solve most issues, but it has also introduced a couple of new ones.
-
Hi,
I am agreeing that the new drivers would have been much more important. My network has been instable since I introduced the Almond+ APs. Just providing plain wireless connectivity is the most important feature of an AP - range extension really comes later. Why would anyone want to extend something that is not even working with a basic range?
Since I cannot wait any longer I have now replaced the Almonds by two different APs and all my problems have vanished. What a waste of time waiting! Anyone in Germany interested in one black and one red Almond+?
Disappointed! Wrong priorities in my eyes!

I feel like I should say I paid for an insanely cheap device capable of doing great things.
I'm looking forward to all future firmware upgrades when they are ready.
I use the almond+ as an access point and home automation, for just these two areas its a great buy and can't wait till the
New features and kinks get worked out.
-
So what we've decided to do this time around is to release two firmware versions.
R067 which won't include the new Wi-Fi drivers, but all other fixes and improvements.
R067 something beta which will include the new drivers, all the other fixes and improvements, but not the range extender option.
Both firmwares should be released this week.
-
Hi Lars & Torben,
I just would like to know if there's a difference between Germany and France regarding Frequencies. i guess there isn't.
@ Torben : what price would you sell'em ?
@ Lars : if i buy Torben's routers, would i have the same support as if i'd be a backer ?

No difference and sure, we don't discriminate in any way like that, if you have a product, you have a product.
-
R067 something beta which will include the new drivers, all the other fixes and improvements, but not the range extender option.
Is this the only big known issue that will be a problem in said beta? Because I don't use the range extender, so this sounds like the better option.
-
Yes, it'll be the only difference between the two firmwares as far as I'm aware.
-
Very much looking forward to R67 but mainly as I'm hoping homeautomation capabilities will be imprived.
I do not have any other problems with my Almond+ - everything works perfectly fine here (thought that needs to be said every once in a while). Networks (both 2,5GHz and 5GHz) seem to work reliably and fast.
Only thing currently missing (for me) is homeautomation; I'm using "Homee" instead right now but it's just for testing purposes so it'd be fine if Almond+ would soon be able to carry out this task.
And one last thing: Although I also wished quicker FW updates I do appreciate that you do not release any FW that's simply not ready just to be releasing one.
-
The automation will not be there in R067, but we should have something ready in R068.
Notifications is coming in R067 though, but it'll require an updated app, so in as much as it'll be part of the firmware, it'll take a little while before everyone can use it, as we need to get the new apps finished and approved by Google and Apple. To be honest, I don't know how close the iOS app is to have notifications ready, but the Android app is nearly done.
-
Sorry guys, it looks like for some reason the garbled data fix was NOT implemented in R067 and trust me, I'm not happy about this as I was promised it'd be there >:(
It should be in the Beta release coming later this week though.
-
Uh oh...
Could we please have a description of which upgrade path to take, if you depend on certain critical features.
I.e. for people with garbled data, upgrade to R067a, for people who want wireless extender, R067b.. etc.
I'm a little confused as to how many R067 versions there will be, and which would be the right one :-\
Thanks!
-
There will only be two public releases, I just don't know exactly what the beta version will be called right now, so we'll have to wait and see.
-
OK so for garbled data issue, I shouldn't use the current R67 release, yes?
I'll wait then ;D
-
The automation will not be there in R067, but we should have something ready in R068.
That's pretty sad. I was really hoping for *something* in R67. Any ETA for R68 at all?
-
As I've posted elsewhere, we've just started testing automation internally and it needs a bit of work. The code works though, but they UI is very crude right now.
-
Personally Id like to have the router issues with AP fixed before adding new features.
-
It'll be there in the beta firmware that we're going to release later this week.
-
What a waste of time waiting! Anyone in Germany interested in one black and one red Almond+?
Hi Torben, as i didn't have any answer to my PM nor in this forum, should i guess you're not that interested in selling your Almond+?

Will the R67 (Beta) firmware with the driver fix still be released? I would like to get the networking portion of my router fixed. I do not use the automation yet so the known bug would not be a problem.
-
It'll be R068 something beta now instead, it will be released, don't have a date yet, but hopefully towards the end of next week. R068 should be released on Monday which is R067 plus bug fixes.
-
Will firmware R068 be downloadable by A+'s UI?
-
No, because it's pretty much a bug fixed version of R067 now. R069 will be downloadable via the LCD UI.
-
OK. Looking forward to R69. Not only the home automation and ac convinced me to back this.
The 'simple' things like no need for a webbrowser, and control by LCD are IMO awesome features.
Earlier in this thread was mentioned that the R68 (bugfixed 67) would release yesterday.
And a beta maybe later this week.
Any more info by now?
-
Lars, do we have a target date for R069?
Will every update after R069 also be available through the LCD?
Thanks,
-Michael

No, because it's pretty much a bug fixed version of R067 now. R069 will be downloadable via the LCD UI.
Hi Lars,
When is the R068 coming? And will folks like me who never saw the R067 be able to upgrade to R068 directly?
Thanks.
-
It'll be R069 in the end as we had more bugs in R068 which we released to the beta/dev backers, so we had to pull that one too :-\
R069 is looking good and we anticipate to release it either on Friday or Monday.
You can upgrade from any previous firmware to R069.
-
So now that R069 is out, are we still going to see the new beta firmware with the garbled data fix for those of us that don't care about and/or don't have a use for the range extender?
-
Yes, of course, I thought it would've been sooner, but it's still coming.
-
When?
-
I just got the first internal beta build, so if it's all good, in a couple of weeks, as we want to make sure there are no issues with this firmware.
