Title: WAN Z-wave Control from android app
Post by: ZeroZ on May 09, 2015, 07:19:27 pm
Hi, just a quick, simple question.

I am thinking about purchasing the Almond+ as my next router/ Z Wave controller.
Would like to find out if the Almond+ can be controlled from the android app without a connection to Securifi cloud server.
Meaning, would the android app still control Z Wave without an internet connection? Just direct via WAN.

Also my home only contains Aeon Labs Aeotec Z-Wave Micro Smart Energy Switch, 2nd Edition (DSC18103-ZWUS).
My vera 2 detects this fine. Does anyone know if this compatible with Almond+ ?

Thank you.

@ ZeroZ

At present Andriod app would not allow us to control the Z-Wave devices with out connecting to the cloud. However, you have an option to access them locally through Web UI on any client device which is connected to Almond+ wireless network (2.4 or 5 Ghz).

To my best knowledge Almond+ supports this DSC24-ZWUS from Aeon Labs and you may click on the following link to know about the sensors which are supported by Almond+.

I would also try to check with our team to see if they have any confirmation about this device DSC18103-ZWUS works with Almond+ or not and get back to you.

@ ZeroZ,

I just got a confirmation from our team that we have not tested the device DSC18103-ZWUS, however, they are confident that it may work with the Almond+ and if there is any issue then using the log files we could try our best to add the support to it.

I'd be cautious if you need a stable reliable connection to your Almond+ i've had a lot of issues using a few of my android devices to control my Almond+ I think it might have something to do with my ISP unless there's others with a different ISP having the same level. But I can say from my experience the app is about 50/50 on a good day if it'll work with my Almond+. also if you're a U.S. citizen you might want to reconsider simply because there servers might not be domestic and if that's the case a certain government agency of ours has a decent packet collection system that very well may be recording enough to allow for serious security concerns. Frankly I suggest staying away from anyone who requires a cloud connection; I only have my Almond+ because I didn't know that was the case. Other then that it's a stellar machine with ton's of features and potential. Also because all our data goes through there servers (home automation not normal packets) they can see everything and if there servers get compromised the hacker will entail have access to your home. Then there's the issue if for some reason Securifi goes under our machines becomes just routers with a web login interface. The apps ad automation become worthless. So yeah, stay away from any cloud dependent machines; I would suggest a few others but that would be rude considering it's there website. IF they ever allow us to not need the cloud and maintain Android/iOS and home automation though I'd tell you to get one in a heart beat. There is actually a thread on this very matter in the forum.

Edit: I just heard around the Forum others aren't having the cloud connection issues.
