Title: Almond as a repeater and now no Xbox Live Access
Post by: mywncmtns on December 27, 2014, 04:20:41 pm
We are new to Xbox 360 and 2 days ago, I figured out how to open the ports (or whatever it's called) through my primary AT&T Motorola Gateway (router + modem in one).  Life was good :) I added the Almond today as a repeater to strengthen my signal.  When I switched the Xbox to the almond network, I started getting the same NAT message as I did before. I couldn't get rid of it until I switched it back to the original network, and stopped using Almond.

I don't understand because when it's being used as a repeater, it shouldn't be doing anything but increasing the signal (per the representative). I went to the internal IP address, and all the functions that I read about in the help guide for this issue are disabled.  Has anyone encountered this? Any suggestions?  I don't want to have to return it but looks like I will be.

The Almond repeater is leasing an IP address different from the one you setup on your Xbox. So all of the settings you made to your AT&T router will not get through. Think of the Almond repeater as another Xbox 360 except what it does is connects to your wifi and then rebroadcasts that signal just like your AT&T router. So essentially the Almond is almost like a 2nd router. This is how all wifi repeaters work so don't think this is a problem stemming from the Almond itself.

To fix it I believe you will have to statically set the IP address on the Almond repeater and do the exact same port forwarding for that address as you did for your Xbox 360. Let me know if that makes sense. I can't play it out in my head on how the Xbox 360 will need to be configured, but try what I said first and see if that fixes it.

@Mr Bacon, Almond in Range Extender mode does not lease any IP. Not sure about other extenders but Almond in this mode would always have "DHCP Disabled" and hence you can't specify any ports on the Almond. Even if you try to do the same from the Web UI it would give you an error as available only in router mode. The way you have explained the function of a Range Extender, Almond has a  separate feature called "Wireless WAN", where it leases out IP address, but not in the regular Range Extender mode.
