Title: Seperate VPN router
Post by: Flyby on September 27, 2018, 07:31:40 am
I know any integrated VPN functions in the A3 is an issue so I am looking at a separate VPN router to put in front of the A3 mesh.  I use a modem-only box on the cable front-end.  I'm sure the Almond mesh will need to be in access point mode only, but not sure.

For an extra degree of difficulty I am adding a Bitdefender Box so the setup will look like:  Modem - Bitdefender - <new> VPN Router - Almond mesh.

The Almonds will be hardwired either to the VPN router or a switch.

Anybody try this, any issues you can think of?

@ Flyby,

As long as VPN router is giving a stable connection to the Almond 3 Primary, there shouldn't be any issues.

If the setup is LAN-to LAN should the Almond have DHCP turned off?  Is one of the Almonds still "Primary" if it is not serving any router functions?

@ Flyby,

If you want the Mesh setup then one of the Almond 3 has to be in Router mode with DHCP on acting as primary. Or else, they can be set up as wired (Access point) or wireless access points (Range Extender) with DHCP turned off.
