Title: Using A 2015 linked to A+ as more than just AP
Post by: rldreams on August 12, 2015, 11:37:43 am
Since A+ HA is cloud based to a point, I just had a random thought.  We all have an old tablet or phone we use as a " permanent" controller mount on the wall. If I were mount an Almond 2015 as a range extender/access point. Is there a way ( without requiring me to hack in and recreate the world) that the 2015 touchscreen could be used to control devices paired with the main A+ ? Work as a zigbee repeater as well as WiFi ?

I am looking to get a couple of "cheap" <$100 tablets and just mounting them by the doors, once we get the bugs worked out and I can rely on the A+ as an alarm system and not to just turn the lights on when we open the door.  At $99, I thought using Almond 2015s instead of tablets would be a great idea. Only if they could network with the main A+ and actually control everything. If I did not have to set up a completely separate system .  D/W sensors, siren are all ZW, so would not work with 2015 anyways.

I assume this is impossible, but it did not hurt to ask.

@ rldreams,

Yes, we cannot use the Almond 2015 to act as ZigBee repeater along with Wifi. However, you may go for Peanut plug which indeed acts as ZigBee Repeater and ensure to connect that to Almond+.

Did I miss an announcement for the Peanut Plug being released for sale? That should definitely get posted as a major item in the Buy Sensors section.

I know the peanuts work ( when they work) just like every other Zigbee device to expand the mesh network.

I was referring to using a 2015 touchscreen as a control panel to control devices paired to the Almond+ . Since they would both be logged into the same Securifi cloud account.
