Title: Amazon FireTV
Post by: mparadis on October 14, 2014, 07:24:14 pm
For those curious, I side loaded the Android app onto the Amazon FireTV and can run it successfully switching on and off switches etc.

That's what I thought, lol, I'm laying in bed or on the couch and want to turn off the lights but forgot my phone elsewhere. Problem solved.  8)

What exactly is "side loaded"?  I agree that it is a pain when I don't have my phone or tablet to turn the lights off.  Especially since the ALmond+ doesn't support secondary remote controllers.

I cannot get this app to work on my Fire TV Stick.  I get the app loaded, I log in and see my devices.  However, I cannot seem to navigate to the individual devices to toggle them on, or off.  It may be the remote provided with my Fire TV Stick??  I don't know, but it is very frustrating.  ANy help would be appreciated.

I sideloaded android settings as well and used that to pair a mini Bluetooth keyboard with mouse/track pad built in. I user it with a bunch of sideloaded apps. I'll check again later if I'm able to use the regular remote.

What kind of "android settings" are you referring to when you say you installed them?

the generic settings application from android. I believe from 4.4 but I could be wrong. Checkout the firetv subreddit and search for adding a bluetooth keyboard and you can find a link for the app you'll need to do that.

Well, I have successfully sideloaded the "settings" apk.  I first tried pairing my bluetooth mouse I have for my laptop and it worked immediately.  I then purchased a mini-keyboard with track pad and it works as well.  Pretty darn cool!  :-)

Yes it is very helpful for adding non-official apps. Sorry I hadn't been able to test it with standard remote and now can confirm it is not working with standard remote. Continues to work with my Bluetooth keyboard / mouse. One note when scrolling down to through the devices with my keyboard I have to scroll up once first then can scroll down through my full list and use the mouse to select my choices.
