Title: Licensed out hardware or blatant Ripoff. Amazon selling Almond+ Doppelganger
Post by: techvudu on January 09, 2015, 10:13:51 am
Saw this over on the SOAP Indiegogo channel. I doubt Securifi licensed out hardware, but this exactly the same minus the port location. Did someone break in and steal some early build sheets of the A+? Maybe Securifi lost some product selfies with the Apple cloud breach. Made me laugh though...

Strange, certainly seems like a ripoff. Doubt it would work and I noticed there are a few minor differences, many seem like the old original specs.

Looks like you got somebody's attention. I clicked the link and all I got was "this item is no longer available", clicked on the seller's profile and "search did not get any results"

Title: I purchased a rebranded Almond!!
Post by: fraggboy on January 13, 2015, 10:31:01 pm
So, I found a touchscreen wireless router from Home Screen on Amazon.  It's titled: orld's First Wireless AC Router/Range Extender w/Touchscreen (3 Min Easy Setup) and Zigbee Home Automation Hub

I plugged it in and it turns out that the first page I was greeted with said Almond.  I was like WTF?!  Here is a screen shot of the main page via the GUI.

Does it look like the 'real' Almond user interface?
https://www.dropbox.com/s/tf4g70dherbsrd8/IMG_0061.PNG?dl=0

Here is the page I purchased it from:

I'm curious if Securifi is allowing this re-branding?!

I paid $129.00 which it's going to go right back where it came from.. Unless the owner of the company is not aware of this and wants me to send it in to them to file a complaint and get their lawyers involved..

EDIT: IMG tag doesn't play nice with Dropbox.. :(

I added an actual picture of the item as well as the box it came in..

It's an OEM product that we've developed for HomeScreen.
Please note that HomeScreen is handling all support for the product.

I don't believe it's the a+ but rather the next generation almond as it is only zigbee compatible and from what I saw in a few pics on their website its form factor is closer to that.

It's a custom solution, but yes, it's similar to the Almond 2015.

Is this developed by the same team as the A+?
If so, I hope you guys received a lot of money to make it, so you can invest it in the A+-development.
Because I find it a little weird that you have the time to create this for another company while you are months behind on the software of your main product.
NOFI...

No, it was not.
Title: HomeScreen
Post by: anwar.shiekh on February 10, 2017, 01:27:22 am
The now defunct dual-band HomeScreen (http://homescreenrouter.com/support/) has what looks like the same time and weather apps as the Almond

https://www.amazon.com/HomeScreen-TouchScreen-Wireless-Extender-802-11ac/dp/B00PHTQQ3O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1486707721&sr=8-1&keywords=homescreen

One reviewer writes
"My network analyzer app indicates that the internal electronics appears to be from Almond"

A youtube video
"TWO IN ONE - HomeScreen AC750 Dual Band AC Touchscreen Router & Range Extender, 802.11ac - Unboxing"
shows a Securify power supply

was wondering what was going on

Would it run on the Almond 3 firmware?

Would it run on the Almond 3 firmware?

I highly doubt it since the product is two years out of manufacture. Also, the software was being handled by the Home Screen company so it is very likely to be very different.

I should have explained more carefully; quoting from this very thread

Quote

From my  post, now merged into this thread

The now defunct dual-band HomeScreen (http://homescreenrouter.com/support/) has what looks like the same time and weather apps as the Almond

https://www.amazon.com/HomeScreen-TouchScreen-Wireless-Extender-802-11ac/dp/B00PHTQQ3O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1486707721&sr=8-1&keywords=homescreen

A youtube video

So while the firmware was being distributed by the HomeScreen people, I think it fair to say it was written and maintained by Securifi.

According to Securifi employees in the past it was developed by Securifi for another company to sell under the HomeScreen name. HomeScreen was to handle all the development after manufacture on their own. Yes Securifi was the OEM, but they were not maintaining the system.

https://fccid.io/AHL
shows the internals of the various Almonds and the HomeScreen

HomeScreen is now as cheap as $27 on Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00PHTQQ3O/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all
but using alternative firmware does not look promising.

Guess I'll stick with my Almond A1A and hope the new screen lasts longer than the original did.
