Title: Hide/Show Wifi SSID broken?
Post by: dbuttke on August 16, 2014, 05:36:23 pm
Is it just me or when you Hide your SSID (from the touchscreen only as I can't find it elsewhere yet) the network is turned off.
I have to have the SHOW or I can't connect to the wireless.  If I am connected and then hit hide it disconnects immediately.

Anyone else??

From what I've seen, when you apply changes it has to power-cycle the radio, which will immediately disconnect you until the radio re-initializes (within 15 seconds)
Are you able to reconnect after it disconnects?
Are your devices set to connect even if network isn't broadcasting the ssid?

Ok, it's a bit more complicated than that.

On a Windows PC for example, you need to go into the network settings and enable an option in your Wi-Fi connection to allow it to connect to hidden networks.
In Android, you need to remove the network and add it manually or the device won't try to connect again.
On iOS you need to go to Other Networks and manually add the network.
I'm not sure about OS X and Linux.
This is not an issue with the Almond+, but rather a limitation with how hidden SSID's work on the client side.
I'll do my best to get this up in the Wiki next week.

Hmmmm. My other access points never broadcast ssid either and I have no issues with connecting to them.
I know my windows laptops are configured as you mentioned. My android devices work fine on them too.
I have manually added these networks on the almond+ but they just say out of range.
So something else is different here.
Hopefully this can be sorted out.

Odd, I've tested this and it worked just fine when I did it.
I'll have to test it again tomorrow.
