Title: Ethernet "hissing" when large amount of data transferring
Post by: U2FanHFX on September 27, 2014, 11:15:11 am
I've started to notice that there is a "hissing" sound that comes from the Almond+ when large files are transferring on my network.  It almost follows the "cadence" of the lights flashing.  Any idea why this is happening?

Thanks!

I'm assuming it's only happening when you're transferring files over the 2.4GHz band, am I correct?
It's a power component issue which is causing coil whine in a few units.
It won't have any affect on the functionality of the Almond+, but if it's very loud, it could indeed be annoying.
We've had a handful of reports about this, but it's not very common. Sadly it's not something we can screen for in the production.
If you want us to swap it out, please email [suspicious]support@securifi.com[/suspicious] and we'll sort it out.

I get the same noise when wifi is in use during large file transfers or downloads.  If we want to get the device replaced, is there an advanced replacement option available?  I'd rather not go without a router while I'm waiting for a replacement.

Please contact the support team, they'll be able to answer these kind of questions.

My Almond+ has the same hissing sound when the 2.4GHz radio is active. I was worried about it initially, but it's still working great and I have no reason to believe it is not 100%.

As mentioned, it's not affecting how the product works.
Please see - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coil_noise for a better explanation of the issue.
It's unfortunate and at this stage we're happy to replace any units that are causing discomfort due to the noise.
