Title: Clarification on setting up rules in R069cb?
Post by: cff on January 09, 2015, 10:20:12 am
Hello. I feel like an idiot, but I can't seem to get the rules working. I've tried setting up some simple rules to turn on/off/dim a few GE Link bulbs, but it doesn't seem to be working. I've tried various combinations of IF,THEN rules (all based on time, with and without ON/OFF/DIM states defined under the IF and/or THEN sections), but nothing seems to happen when the time passes that should trigger the rules.

Would it be possible to post some documentation on setting up the rules?

Thanks!

Those are old instructions and not applicable to R069cb, hence why I didn't post the link.
I'll be updating that wiki page once I'm back from CES.

Please note that you need to set up the time currently in open wrt or time based rules won't work.

@eldaria

Thanks for the link. I'll look through while waiting on an updated version. It may be helpful anyway.

@Lars

Thanks for the info. I did set the time via the LCD, but not via OpenWRT. Is that sufficient? I will check to see if they match (unfortunately, I don't have access from where I am).

If the time is correct on the LCD, then yes, that's enough.

I tried this briefly with my ge link bulbs as well as another on off plug and the plug worked,  UT the link bulbs did not work.
I'll play with it more this weekend and see if I can get them to come on.

The bulbs will not turn on with this beta, but you can turn them off.

I think they actually did today.
Mine are in the basement and they were on after a timed event was supposed to turn them on.  I asked if anyone else had been in the basement and nobody had.  Not sure why it chose today to work and didn't yesterday though.  Rule was 6pm mon to fri turn on.

I'll play more over the weekend to see what else I can get to work.

How do you edit an existing rule?  I want to perform an adjustment, but I can only create or delete rules.

If you can I can't figure it out either.

Also still wondering what the blue vs. white check mark at the far left of the rule is.

White check mark means the rule is turned on, bluish is the rule is turned off.

I don't think it's possible to edit a rule yet.

Thanks for the clarification on editing a rule.  Hope it's implemented soon, so it makes it easier to test the rules.

Ok, I've updated most of the Wiki page, but I have two more sections to do before I'm done, but this should help you all get started - http://wiki.securifi.com/index.php?title=Rules_UI_-_Almond%2B_2014
The logic is still the same for the time based triggers, it's just the UI that's a bit different.

I checked blue and the rule still ran.

I'm having the same problem with rules still running with a blue checkmark.  Also, if I leave the Rules tab with the blue checkmark on a rule, then go to another tab or refresh the page, the blue check mark reverts to white and the rule activates after I have turned it off.

It's not possible to enable/disable rules in the current firmware. It was added to the UI, but it's not done in the backend as yet.

I get the same behavior (I can get them to turn off, but not on).

Same here, two Wink bulbs, I'm using the key fob as the trigger, can turn off but not on. I'm also getting some inconsistency in just manually turning the bulbs on, sometimes I seems to also need to set the dim state, in addition to or instead of toggling the on/off.

It won't be part of the automation/rules, we're doing push notifications through the apps and once the new apps are out, you'll be able to get notifications. The software team is working on solving a couple of backend issues and once that's done, we'll release the new apps.

We'll get this sorted out, keep in mind that R069cb is the first release that supports rules and as pointed out in the release notes, there will be bugs and this is one of them.

To be clear, the inconsistency in turning the wink bulbs on/off is the general sensor ui, not just the rules (which don't turn them on at all)

One thing to remember is to go into Open WRT and make sure the Almond+ is set to the correct time zone.  When I first started playing with rules I had an issue with the time based rules because I had never updated the time zone in Open WRT.  Works perfect now.
