Title: Fixing Mac OSX and IOS connection issues
Post by: BFH on January 13, 2015, 04:56:03 pm
I've seen a lot of strife in the forums about the speed of Apple products on the Almond+ wifi network. There is, I believe, still performance work to be done on the Almond+ side, but there is a huge fix that can be done on your computer for the known wifi issues in mac OS: disable airdrop fully by turning off the interface. On a mac, you can do it yourself through the terminal by typing sudo ifconfig awdl0 down, or you can download an app from this site (https://medium.com/@mariociabarra/wifriedx-in-depth-look-at-yosemite-wifi-and-awdl-airdrop-41a93eb22e48), which also  explains the issue. If you have IOS, and you are jailbroken, you can use this. (https://medium.com/@mariociabarra/wifried-ios-8-wifi-performance-issues-3029a164ce94). Fixes are supposedly in the works from apple in the next minor OS versions.

I still am having some performance issues while using this hack and the latest beta firmware, but performance seems much improved.

Thanks, but I saw no improvement in my case.

Worth a try anyhow. I am still getting high end 802.11n speeds in my apartment after the fix, but it's a densely populated area, so I don't know how much is due to the router and how much is interference. I hope the wifi drivers continue to improve.
